Ohh.La.La.Kitsune.Night.2012

Ohh La La Fest .2012

Kitsune.Maison.Night
@el.Rey.(Los Angeles, CA)
Thursday.Oct.11th

This is my first time attending this event and it was good.  i LOVED the music they played.  It wasn't  busy and  you can count the people in here.  They where ALL mostly seating along the side of the theater.  Zowie and I sat by the stage.  After 30 minute, people started to arrive and line up along the stage, but not that many.
Lescop.2012
Lescop was the opening band.  Even though they sang in French, they rocked it OUT!  The lead had some moves that at first, I chuckled, but later, admired.  The guitarist that was on the left hand side of the stage was very interesting to watch.  He looked like he belonged with Mars Volta.  He had this 70's thing going, nice  white dress shoes, tailored pants and shirt and can't forget his fro.  Very nice.
Lescop.2012
Since Lescop sang in French (well, it is Kitsune Night), British band Citizen! killed it!  Not what I excepted.  I just recently downloaded their debut album, "Here We Are" and I am loving it (A MUST GET).  Think of the vain of Franz Ferdinand (Alex Kapranos produced the album) and Friendly Fires combine.  They sure lived up to the album's disco rock grooves and what shiny shoes.  Nice.
Citizens!.2012
Tom Burke (Lead Singer) had on some nice patent leather looking loafers that reminded me of Michael Jackson.  He kind of moon walked or was it just me wanting him too.  If he did, he did it very well.  For sure , I'll be back to catch, Citizens!...AGAIN!

I tried to stick around for Housse de Racket, but they took so long to set up.  It was already 11:10pm and I was getting sleepy.  So, I decided to leave and I bet they threw a great show.  Until the next time but, definitely check out Citizens!  This is the band to watch for.

GRIMES.(L!VE)...

Grimes.2012
Grimes.2012

Wednesday.October.10th

Halloween has arrived early tonight at El Rey Theatre.  The line to get in was wrapped around the block and it moved quite quickly.  I was very surprised to be up front, again.  This time, they had a barricade.  They are tapping tonight's show for Carson Daly.  Groovy.  I looked around and there are some characters tonight.  When I walked to get my shirt, there was this guy wearing a gold flannel...FABULOUS!   A girl across from him had heavy makeup that made he eyes look like a raccoon..trick or treat.
Grimes.2012
When I got my Grimes shirt, I noticed a sign on the side with price point of the merchandise she was selling.  All the way in the bottom of the list was, pu$$y rings.  Interesting.  I should of asked.
Grimes.2012
The first band went on and they matched the crowd tonight.  They had stuff covering there faces  (think of lamp shades).  They sounded a bit like CocoRosie at first until they played the second song, that comparison just went out the window.  They started screaming instead of singing.  This is why Electroclash didn't last.  At least, they had cool visuals to look at.
Grimes.2012
It doesn't get better when the second band went on.  Maybe, Claire Boucher (Grimes) did this on purpose so we can talk about the openers.  Smart move, if she did.  That second act was...out there.  It was a one man band and he looked nervous.  He fucked up a couple of times, but I didn't mind.  He should put it in his act.  He was funny and I loved the props he had on stage.  Flowers, stuffed animals and a umbrella that he opened up and sang under it.  Hello, Marry Poppins!
Grimes.2012
Besides him coming out eating ice cream, Grimes did an awesome show.  I heard a couple of bad things about her live, but today, she kicked ass!   She used the two girls that opened her show and had them  play backup (keyboards).  Sometimes, they would come out from behind the keyboards and dance on a few songs.
Grimes.2012
As the night tends to die down, they bring out another dancer that looked like a 90's club kid.  She had crazy purple dreadlocks, that she swung  all over the place.  The outfit was gold and it looked like something out of She-Ra.  Rock on!  S, no encore, just a steady flow of hits after hits.  Ms. Grimes, you rocked it out!  I will see her again, that's for sure.

Friday.October.5th

HELL YEA!!!  Maccabees!  Maccabees!  Forget day two of Culture Collide, but I am gonna miss see Zola Jesus.  Dam!

I am here  super early that I am waiting in line outside to get in.  The crowd so far is young and a couple of older adults (including me).   Being here early paid off because once we where let in,  I ended up in the very front.  Never ever been.  Cool.  The crazy thing,  I am next to this kid with headphones?  Really?  Okay.
the.Maccabees.2012
iO.Echo was the opening band (do they call this band when they can't find anyone?).  Jesus!
the.Maccabees.2012
Maccabees went on and they FCVKn killed it!  It was interesting to watch every single band member do there own thing.  I have fallen for Orlando Weeks (Lead Singer).  First, I like what he was wearing.  Rolled up pants showing his white socks, sporting Nike's.  Man, he has small feet and boy, can those little feet move and what a dancer.  I also like the way he moved. Hahahaha.
the.Maccabees.2012
The set of songs they picked to perform was perfect, It was a best of.  They played my favorite song, "William Powers"...aaaahhhhhh.  YES!  I was so close that I can see the set list on the floor.  I usually don't like to see it, but it was staring at me.  The guy behind me, tapped me and told me, "just to let you know, I am grabbing that" (I could give a fuck).  I told him, "knock yourself out, it's all yours".  Dick.  To top it off, the fucker was wearing a members only jacket (fuck, can we give the 80's a rest).  The guy was entertaining.  He told the same thing to my friend Zoe and sure enough, she got it.  The guitarist (Hugo White) actually handed it to her.  In your face, buddy!

Friday.June.15th

What, no encore?  Awesome because I am tired of standing on this FCVKn step.  It didn't even help after watching two horrible opening bands.  At least, Devon was a little entertaining and sounded better then the second band, a little better. Devon's front man screamed a lot and told some jokes that didn't make any sense.
Devon.2012
The second band had a female singer that you could hardly hear what she was singing.  Almost after every second song,  they would all switch instruments and they would take turns singing.  That didn't even help.  They where all bad.  The crazy part, they just arrived from touring Spain.  WTF?!?!  Yea!  Crazy.  There name was very long, forgettable and they where even worse then Devon.  Devon should of gone second to relieve me from the second band.  It was...really, BAD.  BUT...It didn't stop the kids from moshing though.
the.Cribs.2012
The moshing didn't get to out of control, but I was getting bumped into a lot by these drunk couple (great, here we go).  The girl was so FVCKd up that the guy was propping her up a bunch. I was almost knocked over a couple of times because of them.  It didn't help that I was standing on a step too.
the.Cribs.2012
The.Cribs hit the stage at 11 o'clock and they kicked A$$!  This is my first Crib concert and I thank my friend Zowie for inviting me to see them.  More moshing started and the kids where getting tired.  What, already.  I would turn over to see the kids go crazy and a minute later, the moshing would end.  They should of saved all the energy for The Crids instead of that awful second band.

\m/- Crazy.
