Coasts.(LiVE).2015

Coasts.2015
the.Roxy.Theatre

Monday.August.10th

The concert season has started for me and now back to blogging.  It's been a year that I haven't written anything about a show and what a perfect band to start my blog again.  Actually, the only band I wanted to see at Coachella this year.  Glad that Coasts came back and headlined there own tour.  They kicked a$$ tonight!  I almost missed this show because I forgot to key it in my phone.  Thanks for the newsletter Goldenvoice.

I arrived to the venue and the Roxy was packed with so many young kids.  They where getting down with the opening act.  Not a clue who the band.  When they got off stage, the kid's faces started to glow.  Everybody around me where on there phones, showing pictures and watching video clips. Pretty funny, but I kind of like it in a crazy way.

I was a little nervous at first because I wasn't seeing any regular faces.  I was saying to myself, "is this the English band Coasts or someone else"?  This young crowd was not helping.

Coasts hit the stage and what a performance!  Loved it!  The kids where dancing and singing along with there smartphones to prove it.  I didn't even know they where a 5 piece band. I know I should of goggle them, but I like to be surprised and I was.  I have friends who watch YouTube videos of the bands live before they actually buy a ticket to the show.  I try not to do that.

But for sure, I'll catch Coasts again in the future. I was entertained from start to finish and they sounded great!  Rock on...Coasts!

HELL YEA!!!  Maccabees!  Maccabees!  Forget day two of Culture Collide, but I am gonna miss see Zola Jesus.  Dam!

I am here  super early that I am waiting in line outside to get in.  The crowd so far is young and a couple of older adults (including me).   Being here early paid off because once we where let in,  I ended up in the very front.  Never ever been.  Cool.  The crazy thing,  I am next to this kid with headphones?  Really?  Okay.

iO.Echo was the opening band (do they call this band when they can't find anyone?).  Jesus!

Maccabees went on and they FCVKn killed it!  It was interesting to watch every single band member do there own thing.  I have fallen for Orlando Weeks (Lead Singer).  First, I like what he was wearing.  Rolled up pants showing his white socks, sporting Nike's.  Man, he has small feet and boy, can those little feet move and what a dancer.  I also like the way he moved. Hahahaha.

The set of songs they picked to perform was perfect, It was a best of.  They played my favorite song, "William Powers"...aaaahhhhhh.  YES!  I was so close that I can see the set list on the floor.  I usually don't like to see it, but it was staring at me.  The guy behind me, tapped me and told me, "just to let you know, I am grabbing that" (I could give a fuck).  I told him, "knock yourself out, it's all yours".  Dick.  To top it off, the fucker was wearing a members only jacket (fuck, can we give the 80's a rest).  The guy was entertaining.  He told the same thing to my friend Zoe and sure enough, she got it.  The guitarist (Hugo White) actually handed it to her.  In your face, buddy!

Okay...what an amazing voice.   Just blown away and to actually hear her perform these songs was priceless. Brittany Howard (Lead Singer/Guitarist) is the girl to look out for.  She is NOT your typical skinny rock girl.  I was pulled in and invested from the first song she sang.   I wished the person behind us was invested himself, but decided to cause a little riot.  Really?  San Diego...you are acting like Angelenos.

When I was driving towards Downtown San Diego on the freeway, people where such DICKS!  Cutting you off sharply and trying to rush you by getting close to your car.  What is going on with S.D.?  Sad.   At least people in OceanSide are still nice.

Before I met up with my close friend Dianna, I walked around OceanSide to take some pictures.  The more I come here, the more I LOVE IT!  If you ever have a chance, stop by OceanSide, it's a cool little town.

Back to Alabama.Shakes..........AWESUM!  critic's have compared Brittany to Tina Turner (don't see it), but Dianna thought (which was a good one), Etta James.  Maybe.

Besides the a$$hole causing a up roar behind us (he got kicked out by the way) and he accidentally hit Dianna on the head (which I did not know because I was so invested in the show).  I was angry of course, but what can you do.  He almost ruined a perfect night, but he didn't.
