Okay...FKA.twigs made FYF for me.  What a performance! So happy I left right after Belle.  I was going to stick around for Morrissey because I was really up close, but wanted to see something fresh and new.  Plus, someone less of a asshole.  

Once I arrived to the stage that twigs was going to be, it was...PACKED!!!  D'Angelo was performing and he was really...GOOD!  He had that place moving.  AWESOME! 

This was my first time at FYF and I Fuckn loved it.  So chill compared to Coachella. Everyone was in good mood and very respectful.  I told myself, "self, am I in LA?".  For sure I'll be back.

  I arrived just in time on Saturday to see La Femme.  They where...okay.  I stayed for a couple of songs and headed to the beer garden.  Drank a couple of beers and headed to catch The.Drums.  

What, Johnny is...GAY?!?!  Who new.  I had no idea.  He came out saying he got married to his partner who was in the pit with the photographers. Awesome!!!  Once again, they where bueño. 

!!! was up next and they are always entertaining to watch.  The new tunes sounded good and it's great to see this band still making music.  Not so many NYC from early 2001 have survived when they first came out.  Only a few are still going strong right now.

  Bloc.Party was up next and of course, they killed it!!!  They got a new lady drummer (awesome) and guitarist.  Don't know if they are permanent, but will find out when they come back.  

Saturday had the better line up then Sunday (of course), but like I said...FKA.twigs was AMAZING!  Had to leave after Bloc Party to go back and attend my booth at Chinatown.  Wanted to see so many others, but there is always next year.  See you in 2016 FYF!!!

Already being asked for my ticket and I have not arrived to the venue yet.  That's pretty crazy.  I heard both shows SOLD OUT quick.  I thought it was gonna sale very slowly because the cost to see them is $50.oo, but with the service charge from Ticketmaster, it comes up to $70.oo each.  That's not including the $20.00 parking in there structure.  Of course I know the neighborhood and I parked 4 blocks away from The Shrine (score).

I met up with my friend Steven and we arrived at a perfect time.  It was not packed yet, but to get a good space up front was getting crowded already.  We headed to the shirt stand and....WOW!   That line was HUGE.  They sold coffee cups and titanium water bottles.  I was surprised they did not sell any tote bags (I wanted one if they did).  I waited after the show to get a shirt and the line was STILL HUGE!  
They had a opening band and they where good.  They reminded me of Esteban & the Witch, but better.  The only problem, each songs they played where to long.  They need to cut them short. 

It started to get busy and of course you had those people that want to be up front.  Some lady next to me freaked out on one tall guy that gently pushed his way.  He stood in front of her for a second and then he moved.  The crowd was older and mellow and well behaved.  no craziness.
The last time I was here at The Shrine Expo was when The.Chemical.Brothers preformed here in the mid 90's.  They held ALOT of underground parties here and I attended half of them.  It was between La Casa and the Shrine for those famous underground parties, because they where cracking down the warehouses.  Fun times.
Portishead went on and they K!LLED !T.  The visuals where simple, but AMAZING.   Beth Gibbons (Lead Singer) voice was on point.  She sounded GREAT and so much like the album.  Not alot of artist can pull that off, but Beth does.  She is so shy because everytime she stopped singing, she would face the direction of Geoff Barrow (the Genius).  I was surprised that she was standing...UP!  The only time she sat down to sing a song was, "Wondering Star".  Okay...they did an AWESOME remake of the song.  They stripped it down (way...DOWN) and it was incredible that I want it.  
They played the new one, "Chase the Tear" (which is almost a year and a half old) in the middle of the show.  You would think that was the song to end the night.  They sold the single at the booth for $20.oo (Okay...REALLY!  Thats CRAZY!).  That's to high for a 12'inch record.  They played alot from the first album,  a few from the second and some from the third.  I wish I could go to the 2nd night, but NYC is calling.

WHAT?!?!?  I am up front at the Palladium?!   I'm never been right up front leaning against the rail.  Its almost 9 o'clock and the place is kind of empty.  You would think this concert would be sold out, but no.  The line up is GREAT and Cut Copy threw a kick a$$ show at Coachella this year.  So why a lite crowd?   I rushed here to catch Midnight Magic, but they have not gone up yet.
Midnight Magic was up and on bass was Andrew Raposo (he's from Jessica 6 and ex Hercules & Love Affair bass player),  how many bands is this guy bass playing for?  What a busy guy.  Midnight Magic is doing something different from what other dance bands are doing right now.  They are bringing 70's disco back to the dance floor with a 90's twist.  They played a couple of songs and they did a good job in pumping the crowd.  They got some of us moving and they where good.  If it wasn't for that free download from Scion, I would of not heard about them. 
Washed Out was up next and they did pretty good.  Nothing new or different from the last time I saw them at the EchoPlex.  I looked around and it started to get busy. 
Cut Copy hit the stage and what a show!  Of course people went crazy when they played, "Light & Magic", but it wasn't as bananas as Coachella...that was insane.   I was looking forward to the door that they displayed really cool visuals.  I wonder why they didn't bring it with them this time?  

They actually played "Sun God" in it's entirety and it was FCVKn AWESUM!   Tim Hoey (Guitar/Sampler) was all over place, but in a good way.  Couldn't keep my eyes off him. He was always doing something crazy.  Tim Hoey would get his guitar and drag it along the stage to get some noise.  There are times when he would get a tambourin and hit the symbols harder then the drummer.  He was pretty wild.  You would think the crowd would be wild too, but where I was at, they kept it together.  
If you haven't gotten the new album; Zonoscope or seen them live, you are missing out.   Everytime I see them, they throw an AMAZING show and they NEVER disappoint.

SOLD OUT!  Who knew.  I came in when Com Truise was on.  He was good and he had the crowd going.  Com Truise was not spinning, he was moving knobes, not like Daedelus. It was different.  He had a live drummer playing the beats. 
The crowd was young and sure enough, there was a little scuffle.  Not to crazy, but it was some young girls trying to move up front.  They bumped into the wrong guy and he was cursing them out.  It was crazy to watch this tall, stocky and nerdy looking guy saying crap to a 5'1 girl.  Just let her go and trip her while she passes by, I do. 
Neon.Indian went on and they where really good.  For some strange reason, they reminded me of early O.M.D.  There is only one girl in the band (plays the synthesizer).  They had this crazy machine that looked like a pyramid that was covered up at first.  I thought it was gonna do some crazy Lazer light show, but no.  It just leaked smoke and blinked a light a couple of times in different colors.  GROOVY?!  
Alan Paloma (Lead Singer who happens to be Mexican, right on) was a entertainer.  He was cutting a rug on stage (dancing).  The girls next to me where going crazy. It's their Elvis. Cute.  No wonder they pushed to the front and of course, happen to land next to me.  Thank God the speaker was blocking them from me.

If you haven't gotten Era Extrańa (album title), you should.  It's GOOD.  Just like the concert.

Now this was a...SHOW!!!  Did not know what to except from them and I was BLOWN AWAY!

When I got close to the venue, I was hit up twice for my ticket.  I didn't know this concert was SOLD OUT until I was in line for my ticket at will call.  I came close to seeing them at Detroit Bar and I should of went.  I downloaded the new album (Skying) and it's FCVKn AMAZING .  It's better then "Primary Colors".  Who knew this band was gonna BREAK, B!G T!ME.  No one new (not even myself).  Just like Radiohead.  Everybody thought after Pablo Honey, they would be gone.  But they surprised us with a Great second album, just like The Horrors.     Just to let you know, I am NOT comparing them to Radiohead, just the journey.
I arrived early so I can get a good spot (which I did).  The first band went on and...DAM!  I am stuck here and I don't want to lose my spot.  DAM!!!!! 

The Horrors hit the stage and what a calm crowd it was.  No drunks, no pushers to the front or some a$$hole on his/her phone through the whole show.  The set went quick...I guess because I was enjoying the show.  The Horrors played nothing from there first album.   I wonder why they didn't.
The last time I saw The.Horrors was only for 5 minutes at last year's Coachella.  All I heard was feed back and they left the stage. They had ten more minutes to play, I guess they got tired.  Who knows, but what a show tonight.  I was never bored and every member had there own characteristic.
After the show, I was hanging out with my new friend Zowie.  I see her at almost every show I go to. At Viva.Brother show, I decided to introduce myself to her.  She cool peep's.  Zowie has a cool radio show on Fridays from 5-6pm on Moheak.com. Check it out. She plays REALLY cool music.
Zowie, a friend of her's (I think his name was Carlos) and I hung outside (I never do) the venue and I did not know she was waiting for the band to come out.  She told me this is the only exit for them to come out and sure enough, Faris Badwan (Lead Singer) comes out. He was camera shy, so no pictures, just signatures.  There where a couple of us out here and I just watched from afar.

Who ever booked Patrick Wolf here at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery is...VERY GOTHIC.  Never been here for a concert and I never knew they had live shows.  Movies, yea, but concerts?!  I'm there.  I always wanted to see Patrick Wolf, but I always had something going on.  I didn't know he was touring and I found this by accident.  Thank God he added another show because Tuesday was SOLD OUT!  

I parked my car in the cemetery (FREE parking, I like that) and it was a bit spooky.  The only light out was the moon.  It was not to far of a walk.  It was just right there on your left when you step into the main gate.  I walked to the venue and you had to go up some stairs.  There was no one around at first until I got to the main room (I think they have Wake's here).  It is a seated venue (sucks!) and it was PACKED!  I was hoping it would be standing.  I was looking around and it was the perfect crowd to fit this perfect mood.  You had your Straights, Gays, Lesbians, Trannies and in-betweeners.  Heaven.  
It's 9 o'clock and Calpernia (well known Pre-op) was the opener.  Who knew she could sing.  Calpernia is a Reality TV Star that had a dating show on Logo a few years back.  It was an okay show.  She got up stage and played the violin.  After two song, she started singing.  I liked it when she was playing the violin.  After a couple of songs, I was getting bored.  She played for thirty minutes (thank God!).  She walked into the crowd and people started to grab her and talk to her.  I went to the bathroom. 

Just when I was gonna use the toilet, a drag queen comes out saying, "my pussy got flushed down the toilet and this florescent light is not helping.  We are at a cemetery for God's Sakes!  The lights should be dimmed!".  Funny.
I went back to my seat and they started to place more chairs for the new people that have arrived.


Patrick Wolf came from the back of the audience singing in a cappella.  WOW!  What a voice and what a show he put on.  He played piano and some other instruments that I can't pronounce.  I took a music class in 6th grade and A+ the class.  Right now, I can't name the instruments he is using, oh well.  F-

Patrick Wolf surprised me with this show.  Everything was stripped down.  No drum machines or synthesizers in site.  Just pure and simple.  I love it when artist surprise you and change it around.   That is a TRUE ARTIST.  It made every song more meaningful and the lyric, beautiful.  I don't own any albums from him, just singles.  Hearing the songs today, makes me want to buy some albums.  

When I first heard Patrick Wolf, I was not getting him.  I kept hearing that he puts on a GREAT show and that is why I am here today and the stories are...TRUE.  Thank God for the second show.
Patrick Wolf connected with the crowd and had conversations with us.  He told us that last night he was a bit off because he was jet lagged.  "Today is better and I am more focused.  Less talk and more music", he said. What I loved more was his love for Mariachi music and when he is in town, he puts on the Spanish radio station.  ROCK ON! 

The set was a hour long, but I wanted more and so did the crowd.  There was no back stage for him to hide.  He had to leave from the front and security came to lead him to the back.  He was so kind and very loving to the fans when he passed by the aisles.  I would see him again.

It's a DOZY (hot day today in Los Angeles) today, but the night was cooler.  I decided to see Brother U.K...I mean Viva Brother (thats a FCVKd UP name.  They should of stuck with U.K. Instead.  It sounds better) again because they threw a GREAT show last time (at Satellite) I saw them.  Plus, the album came out a couple of weeks ago.  Now I know more then just one song, "Darling Buds of May".
I like, "Famous First Words" (New album).  It's not, WOW!  It has a couple of good songs, but of course the album got slammed BIG TIME on  NME.  Oh well.  It did not stop me from buying the album.
You would think (once again), all the press they get, this place would be packed...Nope.  Once again, it's LITE!  Lot more people from last time.  Maybe...twenty or twenty five more.  It was a DEAD crowd, once again.  Even Leonard Newell (Lead Singer) was trying to pump us up and it was working, but just for a few minutes.  The girl in front of me made a cute Viva Brother sign (all by pencil) and Leonard saw it and gave her a smile.  At the end of the show, Leonard gave her a guitar pick.  That was really nice of him.  All that hard bullshit, he really has a soft spot.

It was a kick a$$ concert again.  No matter how small the crowd was, they K!LLED !T.  They sounded and played great.  The only thing that was to cool for school, no encore.  They just left the stage, waved goodbye and never came back.  We waited for a couple of seconds and the lights went on.  Even with all that spitting that Joshua Ward (Guitarist) was doing, they should just drop the Rock and put Punk on Grit.

Took a cab to the bowl and once we stepped out, 80's fashion hitting you in the face.  The top 80's outfits where the Day-Glo and Joy Division (of course) and Bauhaus (of course) concert shirts leading the pack.  This is Totally 80's  not Totally Deadly 80's.  There was alot of bright colors here tonight that all the bowl needed was a black light to spot them.   It was cool to see people dress up for this concert. I am eXXXcited to see The Human League.  Never seen them or any of the others, The B52's, The Fixx and Berlin.  A really GREAT bill, but what happened to Men Without Hats?  Why are they not on this bill?  I bet it has to deal with numbers.  That would of been another great band to watch.

We missed Berlin (oh well).  The Fixx where up next and they where really good.  They opened up with "Red Skies".  I could not believe how well Cy Curnin (Lead Singer) looked.  He aged VERY well.  They sounded AMAZING and they kicked some a$$.  They had enough time to play a new song and it was, O...K.
Less then 30 minutes, The B52's where next.  They hit the stage and they where GREAT.  Never seen them before and they kicked some a$$.  I was so excited when they played "Planet Claire" and it sounded...PERFECT.  Other songs they played where; "Rock Lobster", "Love Shake",  "Party Out of Bounds", "Mesopotamia" and so many others.  The great part of the show was watching the people.  It was a party.  
The Human League was up next and they...K!LLED !T.  They sounded amazing and they had kick a$$ visuals.  The stage was simple.  It reminded me of Kraftwerk and Yazoo.  This is how I pictured O.M.D.'s stage, but it was far from any of them.  They really kept it simple, that made that show a bit boring.  But what I really noticed, was the crowd was DEAD!  No one stood up the moment they came out on stage and when they played there first song, "Never Let Me Go" (new song), still no one stood up to dance.  The song is KICK A$$ and it has a great catchy beat to it, but no response from the audience.  Just the sound of crickets.  The energy level dropped after The B-52's. 
When they played, "The Sound of the Crowd", I thought that would get the people moving, but no.  Still DEAD!  But sure enough, once they played, "Don't You Want Me" and "Fascination", people got up and danced.  After that, flatline.  "Human" sounded amazing and the band still looked great.  The girls (Susan Ann Sulley and Joanne Catherall) looked...HOT, like they never aged.  That goes the same for Philip Oakey (lead singer who kept moving around the stage alot).  He lost all of his hair and he looks good bald.  

On that note, The Human League put on a AWESUM show (even though the audience was asleep) and they gave it.  I would see them again, but in a small private indoor space.  That goes for everyone who was billed. No on disappointed.  They all delivered, but I would of liked to have seen Berlin, oh well.

Tonights event at The EchoPlex is called TrannyShack and they had some Drag Performances first. The announcer told us that the show is running late. Of course it is. It was drag after drag and some where good and others where okay. The Teletubbies piece was bizarre. You had to be on something to enjoy. That $H!T was...CRAZY.

Then, came out Cazwell. He had this bedazzled Puerto Rican boxer jacket on with a huge star on the back. I thought he was white or does he like Puerto Ricans? Nice. Cazwell opened up with, "Get My Money Back". You would think he would close the night with that song. There was no encore. He just got off stage and another show was gone and so was I.

I love that Cazwell is just hitting (it must be the videos). He was part of the early ElectroClash movement in New York City. During that time, he went under Morplay. He was funny then and he still is now. Thanks God he did not quite like the other early ElectroClashy bands. The last time I saw him was at MJ's (Silver Lake). The place was empty. Maybe just twenty people there, but tonight, it's packed.

Cazwell did his thing without dancers or visuals and he K!LLED !T.
