Little.Boots.(L!VE)...

Little.Boots.2013
@the.Echoplex.(Los Angeles, CA)
Thursday.May.2nd

The first band, Feathers where okay.  I liked the beat and sound of the band, but I was not digging the singer.  I couldn't  make out what she was singing and didn't have much of a stage presence.

The next band, Avan Lava was Wham! meets C+C Music Factory.  They got the crowd going and I have never heard of them.  I was trying to make out if the lead singer was gay or not.  So hard these days and they where putting there...ALL. It was a show with confetti cannons going off into the crowd and a flash of titi here in there.  Yup, one of the dancers was flashing us.  She tried to fix it but gave up, just like the tape that was covering her nipples.

Little.Boots was up next and she toned down her look.  She grew out her hair and she reminded me of Goldfrapp.  I was missing that funky look.  The sad part of this show, there where a couple of technical problems.  Her mic was not working and when it did, the piece that connected to the mic (the wire) would fall off.  It happened twice and she caught the last one just in time. Victoria Christina Hesketh (Little.Boots real name) kept her cool while the tech guy ran around like a chicken with his head cut off trying to fix her mic.

Once the mic was fixed, she would walk around, but...the cord was too short.  Little.Boots kept her cool and she didn't stop the show, she just kept on going, but she did apologize and didn't blame anyone.  I like that.

The show was great and she played a bunch of new songs that sounded very promising, can't wait. Besides the Tenori-on not working as well and other techie problems, Little.Boots pulled out a GOOD show.

Shiny.Toy.Guns w/MNDR (L!VE)...

Shiny.Toy.Guns.2012
Shiny.Toy.Guns.2012

@the.EchoPlex (L.A., CA)
Tuesday.October.23rd

KROQ nite at the plex.  Weird.  What is KROQ now?  I stopped listening to that station in 92.  Sometimes I'll sneak a peak to hear what they are playing and it's still...CRAP!
MNDR.2012MNDR.2012
Long line to get in, but it moved quickly.  Once inside, the place was packed.  I have no idea if this is sold out.  Never mind, yes it was.
Shiny.Toy.Guns.2012
MNDR...K!LLED !T, but the crowd was...D.E.A.D.   Amanda Warner (Lead Singer) was pumping them up and it worked, but just for a small while.  I loved her 80's Hip-Hop dance moves that she was doing.  It reminded me of Salt-n-Pepa "Push It" video.  Even though it was a solo performance, MNDR was giving it her all and I loved it.  She had my attention from the start.  I  wondered  if Madonna got her initials from her new album from Amanda?
Shiny.Toy.Guns.2012
Shiny.Toy.Guns. played a twenty song set that was pretty good.  They played some cover songs (Depeche Mode "Stripped" of course) and new stuff from the new album that came out today, titled, III (do you think they got the idea from Crystal Castles?).
Shiny.Toy.Guns.2012
They played "Le Disko" towards the middle of the show and closed it with two of my favorite songs, "Fading Listening" (I really LOVE that Fleetwood Mac sounding song) and "You Are the One". Perfect!  What a way to end this night.
Shiny.Toy.Guns.2012
Besides, Carah Faye Charnow (Lead Singer) throwing her mic on the ground really hard (SO PUNK ROCK) for not working during the opening song, this was, pretty...

Ladyhawke.(L!VE).2012

Ladyhawke.2012
Ladyhawke.2012
@the.EchoPlex.(Los Angeles, CA)
Monday.September.24th

What a crazy day today.  Went to the taping of Fashion Police Emmy's Episode and Joan Rivers was awesome.  Such a warm, funny and friendly celebrity.  If you ever get a chance, get tickets to the show, it's a ride.

Today's show was scheduled for Tuesday.  No idea why it was moved, but I can rest tomorrow and catch up on some TV shows.

It's 9:30pm and the crowd is a little light tonight.  It's not a sold out (which I thought it would be) show.  Have people scratched  her off?  I listened to her new album and I was not to crazy about it.  It didn't have that catchy fun energy from the last album.  This sounds to serious, but lets see what she pulls out tonight.
Ladyhawke.2012
American Royalty was the opening band and had some technical problems that got sorted out.  I was not really into them.  They started to loss me after the fourth song.  Then they picked it up in the middle that got some people's attention.  The guy behind me was singing to almost every song that they performed.  Some girls in the back asked them to take off their shirts.  They didn't and they just ignored the shot out.
Ladyhawke.2012
Ladyhawke went on and she rocked it out.  Just looking at Phillipa Brown (Ladyhawke), you can tell she is a very very shy person, but very well mannered.  She was kind and very sweet to us...AND she might move to Los Angeles.  Ms. Brown told us that she loved are town and is looking to make this her new home.  How cool.
Ladyhawke.2012
I was standing right in front of the stage and noticed a couple of tech guys running around crazily.  I  noticed that they where trying to fix some of the stage lights and they never succeeded. Sux.
Ladyhawke.2012
The guy behind me was making me laugh inside because he was singing along with her and very loud too.  What a sweet soul.  There where times that he hit some high notes.  Sir, it's not your show, let's keep it down.  I was really surprised that he knew that Jefferson Airplane song that they covered.  Right on.

Now that I saw Ladyhawke up in front instead of a balcony 5 years ago in New York City, I want to see her again with her signature lite up Christmas microphone.

Tuesday.June.5th

FCVK!  I am still jet lag (just a little).  I hope it goes away soon.  Ten o'clock hits, I get sleepy.
Is.Tropical.2012
I arrived at the parking lot and its filling up quick and it's only 9 o'clock at night.  It looks like this is going to be a good night.  I arrived at the EchoPlex and there was a line to get in.  It did not take that long to arrive inside.  I headed to my spot and I noticed my friend, Zowie their (cool).  She told me the first band was, terrible.  The second band was up next and they where...I'll  just leave it at that.
Is.Tropical.2012
Is Tropical was up next.  I was watching them set up there equipment and they where not what I expected.  I thought they where gonna look very proper indie kids, but they looked like Metal heads.  They had long hair with a scruffy look.  I like.  When they preformed, they sounded a little different.  At first, I was, is this Is Tropical?  But it was them.  They where good and I liked the little changes on "Lies".  Groovy.

After Is Tropical, I was gonna leave.  I have not heard of Crystal Fighters and I could see why.  Zowie told me I should stick around for them because they are good.  So I did and they where...okay.  I think the lead singer of CF was HIGH!!!  When I arrived at home, I listened to a couple of songs on iTunes.  The songs sounded better, L!VE.

TRUST and Blood Orange (L!VE) @EchoPlex...

Blood.Orange.2012
TRUST.&.Blood.Orange.2012
@EchoPlex.(Los Angeles, CA)
Tuesday.April.10th

You can call me crazy, but yea, I am at a concert after arriving from New York City a couple of hours ago.  Once they added TRUST to this bill, I really had to attend this show.  TRUST is my accidentally new find.  I saw them last year in NYC opening up for Balam Acab and they blew me away.  The progressive beats and that unique haunting voice made my night.  I left the concert after a couple of Balam Acab songs because they where not drawing me in.
TRUST.2012

I arrived early so I can get a good spot for Trust and sure enough, I did.  The venue was a bit sparse and Trust went on as schedule.  They added a new member to the band and Maya Postepski (Synth's) is now the drummer.  I guess the other guy is temporary for the tour.
TRUST.2012
Robert Alfons (Lead Singer) voice sounded like the album which is hard to pull off sometimes.  The new album TRST is so FCVKn AWESUM!!!  Every track is a hit.  The stage was simple and they got the crowd going from the moment they dropped the first beat..  They did not play "Candy Walls" and I was looking forward to it.
Blood.Orange.2012
Blood Orange was next and I noticed the venue getting busy.  Dave Haynes was setting up his stuff and the way he was placing everything, it looked like it was only going to be him.  Sure enough, he was... AMAZING!  If you don't know who Dave Haynes is, He is  a genius!  Dave constantly reinvents himself and he does it right, all the time.  Starting off as a Techo-Rave rock band called Test Icicles (Awesum), but they break up because of the non-stop touring.  Dave decides to move to Brooklyn and start a folk band called, Lightspeed Champion (another Awesum band he created).  I saw them a couple years ago at The Troubadour.  He was good and he had a band with him.  I guess he put Lightspeed Champion on hold and started Blood Orange.

He had visuals, but then the music that was programmed in his laptop started to skip a couple of times that he decided to just play his electric guitar.  He was...KILLING !T.  If that was to happen to someone else, they would of stormed off stage.  Maybe, cancel the whole show after that.  I was proud that he did not do that.

After a couple of technical difficulties, Dave Haynes (Blood Orange) pulled out a GREAT show!  I decided to leave after Blood Orange and I was not sticking around to see Oh Land.   Before I left, I stopped at the shirt stand and wanted to pick up a Trust shirt.  I noticed that Robert Alfons (Lead Singer) was there and I complimented him and his band on what a great show they did tonight.  He was very thankful, but they did not have my size...DAM!

Day.1
Lindstrøm.@EchoPlex
Thursday.October.6.2011

Another year of great bands.  I noticed that Does It Offend You, Yeah? pulled out or they did not get there visa's.  Sux!  I wanted to see them again.  This time with James Rushent (Lead Singer) singing because the last time he was sick and the band performed without him.
jdn73,cosmickids,lindstrom,culturecollide,echopark,echoplex,losangeles I arrived early to the EchoPlex because they don't guarantee you a spot.  It's first come first serve.  I was surprised that it's still $20.00 for the whole event.  That is four days of music and it takes place around Echo Park.  Once inside, it was empty.  You can say, maybe 30 of us in the venue, so I went upstairs to The Echo to catch, Rainbow Arabia.
jdn73,cosmickids,lindstrom,culturecollide,echopark,echoplex,losangeles,rainbowarabiaRainbow Arabia was okay, but I can hardly make out what Tiffany Preston (Lead Singer)  was singing.  After a couple of songs, I went back downstairs and it was still empty.  You would think there would be a crowd for Lindstrøm and he does not go on until 11p.
jdn73,cosmickids,lindstrom,culturecollide,echopark,echoplex,losangelesLindstrøm went on and he was good.  He played a couple of his own songs.  There where some people dancing, but it never got busy.

What? Chain Gang of 1974 goes on first then Class Actress? It should of been the other way around. Sure enough, Chain Gang of 1974...K!LLED !T. They where GREAT again, even though they had a little glitch in the beginning.
washedout,jdn73,echoplex,thechaingangof1974
If you have not yet heard of them, I recommend you get the new album, "Wayward Fire". It's good and who was also good, was the temporary hire on keys. Kamtin Mohager (Lead Singer) told us. "he just learned the notes yesturday". Now that's, impressive. I wonder what happened to the other guy? Well, what ever happened, I can not wait to see them again at Lollapalooza in August. H3LL Y3A!
washedout,jdn73,echoplex,thechaingangof1974,classactress
Class Actress was class actress. I was bored after the second songs. I walked around to people watch and I was impressed by the one's into the show. So I went up front again to see what I was not getting. Which I still did not.

I came close not coming tonight, until they added 1974. Then I was, "okay, let's do this". When I was outside to get in, there was a HUGE line on the other side who did not have tickets. I heard the security guard say, "tonight's show is SOLD OUT". Cool.
washedout,jdn73,echoplex,thechaingangof1974
Washed.Out are the headliner's tonight and they K!CKED A$$! I have not heard anything about there live shows and sure enough, I would see them again. They had me shaking to almost every song they played. Then here comes the jerks. People started to push to the front and of course, I get stuck behind them. All I see now, is the big cabbage head with lots of hair who is flop sweating like CRAZY. Nice. At least he was not drunk, right?

"Straight people be fucking because it takes two of you to make one of us" - Cawell

Tonights event at The EchoPlex is called TrannyShack and they had some Drag Performances first. The announcer told us that the show is running late. Of course it is. It was drag after drag and some where good and others where okay. The Teletubbies piece was bizarre. You had to be on something to enjoy. That $H!T was...CRAZY.
cazwell,jdn73,echoplex,losangeles,trannyshack
Then, came out Cazwell. He had this bedazzled Puerto Rican boxer jacket on with a huge star on the back. I thought he was white or does he like Puerto Ricans? Nice. Cazwell opened up with, "Get My Money Back". You would think he would close the night with that song. There was no encore. He just got off stage and another show was gone and so was I.
cazwell,jdn73,echoplex,losangeles,trannyshack
I love that Cazwell is just hitting (it must be the videos). He was part of the early ElectroClash movement in New York City. During that time, he went under Morplay. He was funny then and he still is now. Thanks God he did not quite like the other early ElectroClashy bands. The last time I saw him was at MJ's (Silver Lake). The place was empty. Maybe just twenty people there, but tonight, it's packed.
cazwell,jdn73,echoplex,losangeles,trannyshack
Cazwell did his thing without dancers or visuals and he K!LLED !T.

Saturday.February.19.2011

I got out of my car when it stopped raining and I noticed that some people did the same. The concert tonight is SOLD OUT (cool). It's good to see Glass.Candy at a bigger place. The first time I saw them was when they played the Troubadour three years ago (I think) and it was half empty. They bored me that night, but when they played Coachella two years ago, they where better. So let's see what happens tonight.
austra,jdn73,echoplex
Austra was the opening band and they where really good. Another band on my list to see again. I thought it was an all girl band because of the E.P. cover. They are two girls and a guy in the band. The lead singer reminded me of Nika Rosa (Zola Jesus lead singer). She sounded kind of like her and moved like her too (just a bit). The more I was watching them, the more they reminded me of Zola Jesus, but a bit up beat. Check them out.
glasscandy,jdn73,echoplex
Okay...that was a bizarre concert experience. I don't mind people bumping into me, but if you do it non-stop, it's a problem. I know it's a concert and you are having a good time, but come on. Stand your ground. I kindly gave the guy a tap to get the hint, but he got crazy on me. He started to dance very wild that he bumped into me ALOT. I was okay with it until he almost made me fall. So, I pushed him (keep in mind, I never do that. He had it coming). He throw a punch (yes, a punch) that hit me on the shoulder. Okay. What the FCVK just happen. The punch did not hurt and he was shouting; "Stop FCVKn a$$hole, stop". Okay. When he said that, I wanted to laugh because of the way he said it. I just ignored him. Once again, he bumped into me. I really do not known what's his deal at this point. Maybe he forgot to take his med's or maybe be a victim of a fag bash. Who knows, but he was bothering the people in front of me as well. I was watching him from the corner of my eye and he started to flip me off. I guess he wanted me to flip out on him, but that was not gonna happen. A person behind me started to hold me from fighting (which that was funny to me) but that was not in my mind. What was on my mind was peeing on him. I over heard him tell his friend that he wanted to punch my face in. I unzipped my fly and sure enough, that pu$$y moved. Of course.
glasscandy,jdn73,echoplex
Wow, that was crazy.
glasscandy,jdn73,echoplex
Other then that, Glass.Candy was great. When Ida No (vocals) came out, someone shouted Snooki at her because of her little bump. Funny. You gotta love Jersey Shore, but no newer stuff (what?!?!?). I was hoping to that. Oh well, at least I got punched at a Glass.Candy concert.

Friday
November.5.2010

There is a huge line for people who do not have tickets (that's a good sign). That's awesome that she has this really good turnout. It's crazy that she is touring without a new album out (White Lies did it, why can she, right?), but she does have a new single; "La musique" that just came out. This is my first Yelle show. I always keep missing her when she is in town. I never hear anything about her shows, so hear I go.

I am inside and it's a bit busy. I have no idea if the people outside are gonna get in. I am looking into the crowd and I see the skinny jeans, the plaid, the 80's hair do's, leggings and the cool kids. Something that was missing at Gary Numan's concert.
yelle,jdn73,echoplexyelle,jdn73,echoplex
The first band just went on and it felt like we where part of a joke. The beats are cool, but he yells and bounces to much. He is preaching more then singing. Oh no, he just released some balloons from his cape. Okay, this is crazy. Oh $H*T, he just released confette after a crazy speech on STD. Why can't we throw $H*T at bad performer's here? I guess we are more civilized here, but we should. At least paper cups, just for fun. This is CRAZY.
yelle,jdn73,echoplexyelle,jdn73,echoplex
OKAY. This was the $H*T! Yelle KiLLED iT! She opened up with this crazy heavy percussion song that just blew me away. The crowd was getting a bit rough and some people around me gave up. I was standing my ground and sure enough I get this drunk chick standing next to me acting like a a$$hole. I always get some kind of moron and they don't think they are at fault. She called me an a$$ (wow, so original) because I would not give her space. FCVK YOU, PUTA! This bitch just pushed to the front with her other drunk friends and she calls me a name. I just ignored her looking to the stage straight ahead and she complained about me to her friends. Funny. I could see them looking at me, but I was busy watching a concert. Sure enough, they moved. I guess it was my feet in the way. Ooops. The drunk chicks moved away for some strange reason (HAHAhhahaha) and they did not ruin this amazing show. It's crazy that she has this following because she only sings in French. That's awesome. She spoke to us in english and pumped us up on every song. They played some new one's that sound so promising. When they played the old stuff, the crowd went crazy. This was the place to be tonight and the kids where having a blast here. I could go on about the concert, but you have to go and experience yourself. There was no crazy light show, costume changes or dancers. It was her and two other male band members that ROCKED this place out. RIGHT ON! See you at the next Yelle concert. \m/ \m/ \m/ \m/

KLAXONS (LiVE!) @ECHOPLEx (Los Angeles, CA)

KLAXONs
Culture Collide
Friday
October.8.2010

This is the first time Filter Magazine does this event called "Culture Collide" and so far, it's a good turn out. They have bands playing at The Echo, Spaceland, Taix and The Standard Hotel Downtown. It's a small music festival with a very big international band line-up. I got my wristband yesterday in the afternoon just to bet the rush. It's a good deal, only 20 bucks to see a bunch of bands in four days, but I am only here for the headliners; Klaxons, White Lies and Tokyo Police Club. Tonight is Klaxons and I can not wait to hear the new stuff. It's been what, 2 or 3 years since there last album and to see them back at the EchoPlex?!?! AWESUME! Crystal Castles opened up (that's when they where.....who is this band) for them.
suun,jdn73klaxons,jdn73
I arrived early because the wristband does not guarantee you entrance if the venue is full. It's pretty first come first serve. So I am here early and no line to get in (thank God). When I stepped in to the EchoPlex there was a band called Suuns already playing that reminded me of HomeVideo. Not bad. After there last song, I went to the T-shirt stand and I bought a Klaxons shirt. After I got my shirt, I noticed that you can go to The Echo. Awesum! We are able to walk around both venues, cool. When I went up there, the next band went on and I left back downstairs. AWFUL. Even the band that was playing downstairs was not for me, but they where at least better. When they where over I wanted to go back up stairs to catch The White Lies DJ set, but they closed it off!?!? FCVKRs! I am stuck here until midnight, when Klaxons go on. DAM!
klaxons,jdn73Klaxons hit the stage around 12:15am. Strike 1. When they came out, they did not wear there 2010 New Romantics outfits, FCVKRs! That's strike 2. But they did a killer show. The new stuff sounded GREAT live and the old stuff sounded fresh. I was surprised that the crowd was a bit tame. That was cool for me, but I was very surprised about that. I thought someone would get crazy and start a pit or something, but nothing. Not even a glow stick was present. Nice. The last song they played was "It's Not Over Yet" and they almost hit a home run with this show but they got a strike 3. No encore and people booed. It was sure over.
