@the.Echo (Los Angeles, CA)
Tuesday.September.11th

I think personally, they should make this a day a holiday and in other news, I just can't believe two GREAT bands came out today (The Presets and The xx).  But to today is the day to remember and never forget.

I wanted into the venue and they where playing Everything but the Girl!!!   Ahhhhhhhhhh.  It's a SOLD OUT show tonight!!!  Who new.  Right On!!!

I missed the opening act, but the second band sounded a bit like DFA1974.  They where good.  DZ DeathRays was the name and they where a wild bunch.  Check them out.
TRUST.2012
I am looking into the crowd and its very young.  It feels great to correct a young girl that the song that is playing is not Erasure, it's New Order.  She challenged me for the name of the song and the album it's in.  I absolutely had a brain fart on both questions, but I described her the album by saying, "it's the one with all the flowers on the album" (Power, Corruption, Lies).  She was like, "of course".  DAM!!!
TRUST.2012
TRUST went on and of course they killed it!  Robert Alfons (Lead Singer) is always entertaining to watch.   He was bouncing and moving around so much that,  I was starting to question if he was actually singing or lip syncing?   You never heard him catch his breath or make a sign, I am just saying.  I was also trying to figure out what he was wearing.  It looked like beige sweat pants and a black mesh top.  Okay.
TRUST.2012
Beside the kids trying to start a mosh pit...really?!  This is not hard core $H!T, kids.  I was missing the live drums.  Bring them back!

You know you are at the hood when they are setting off fireworks before the 4th and I don't mean fireworks you buy at those booths either. By the way, there are none (firework booth) in the city. Why is that? And there is always no one in my street lighting up any fireworks either. Did something happen? Not like I live in the woods or by the beach. Weird.

I arrived at Echo Park and the parking lot is FULL. I went to my secret parking place an that was taken, $H!T. It's looking like a good night. Nice. The last time I saw Jessica 6 was here at The Echo and it was an okay show. They had a few songs and they sounded, not so good. I recently bought the new album, "See The Light" and it's really GOOD. Very impressed. So let's see how they do tonight.
jessica6,jdn73,theecho,disco,herculesandloveaffair
When did The Echo get a marquee? I loved it when it was just blank and now you see this bright light with names of the bands performing that week. Are people still having a hard time finding The Echo, that they decided to put that up. What ever the reason, Sux a$$, but it still has that cool vibe inside.

Of course Steven is late and I thought I was gonna be late because I just came from watching The Interlopers (another GREAT performance from the cast, they ROCK!). The theatre is just down the street and I left quick after the show, thinking they would go on around 10:30 pm. Sure enough, they did not. Jessica 6 went on until a quarter till 12. All this rushing for nothing. Before I forget, Chaz Bono was at the theatre to see The Interlopers and his girlfriend liked the play. So you know what that means. I'll just leave it on that.
jessica6,jdn73,theecho,disco,herculesandloveaffair,lovegrenade
I arrived to The Echo around 10:15 and it was not to busy yet. Steven arrived around 10:30 and the second band went on, Love Grenade. They where okay, but the lead girl danced liked Ida No (Glass Candy singer). The Echo started to get busy and here comes Jessica 6.
jessica6,jdn73,theecho,disco,herculesandloveaffair
Nomi (Lead singer) comes out looking like Darth Sidious from Star Wars, Return of the Jedi. The stage lights where all off (very Gothic) during the first song and they came on after the second song. She took off the cloak and showed us her HOT sexy outfit, nice. BUT...you can see her underwear. Does that mean she still has her pee pee?
jessica6,jdn73,theecho,disco,herculesandloveaffair
This time around they where better, but it was hard to make out what she was singing. Maybe where I was standing. Who knows. It was hard to hear her and I was maybe just three feet away from the stage. There was no encore and no Antony for "Prisoner of Love". Is he ever gonna join any of the people he collaborates with, live? I hope so and Antony should makes a dance album. It would be a H!T.
Besides the girls in front of me that kept turning around, ALOT. WTF! It was a GOOD SHOW.

How To Dress Well (LiVE!) @the.ECHO (Los Angeles, CA)

Friday.February.25.2011

Another rainy weekend here in Los Angeles. I waited in the car for a bit, but there was no sign of the rain stopping. The parking lot was PACKED (wow, people are out). So I went to see if my secret parking lot was not taken and sure enough, it was not. Nice.

I have no idea what to expect from "How To Dress Well". I only have one track, "Ready For the World" and It's on my November.2010 Podcast mix (my.WAVE). All I know, they are put under Night Bus music (the new Goth). There was no end of the rain stopping, so I rushed out to The Echo.
jdn73,howtodresswell
There was no line (thank GOD!) to get in, but once inside, it was busy. There was a one man band performing already. He was okay.
I walked around for a bit. They started to clear the stage. I noticed they only brought out a mic stand. Hum, another one man band tonight. Interesting.

This is VERY mellow. The guy behind, "How To Dress Well" sounded like Stevie B, but dark and without the dance beats. It was cool after a couple of songs, but I wanted some beats. Something to move with. He had one dance song, but it was stripped to the minimal. I mean, minimal. He called it "the queer dance track" and that $H*T did not sound queer at all. It was still mellow with a couple of small atmospheric beats.

This was perfect music for this rainy day. Time to go home and sleep.

ZOLA.JESUS LiVE! @the.ECHO (Los Angeles, CA)

October.14.2010

"She is so self involved. Look at her, she wraps herself with the mic wires. Now I know why you like her", said this guy to his girlfriend after the show. I was racing up to hear more, but they moved to fast.
zolajesus,jdn73
I am at The Echo once again to catch Zola Jesus once again. You would think with all the press that Nika Rosa (lead singer) has been having this place would be pack and sold out, but it was not. She has opened up for Fever Ray, The xx and the English like her. What's wrong with this picture.? People not into it?
zolajesus,jdn73
Zola Jesus went on schedule and I noticed that the stage was a bit empty from last time. Are they afraid that she might go crazy with equipment again? Well she did go crazy with the microphone wire. I thought she was gonna trip because she was using it as a prop. She wrapped it around her arms, legs and she put it on top of her head. The more I was looking at her, she is a performance artist. Towards the last song, Nika Rosa got off the stage and looked as if she wanted to climb the walls of the venue by the ladies room. Since she could not, she just sang by the bathroom pacing back and forth and went back on stage to finish the song and that was the last song she played. AWESUM!

KLAXONS (LiVE!) @ECHOPLEx (Los Angeles, CA)

klaxons,jdn73
KLAXONs
Culture Collide
Friday
October.8.2010

This is the first time Filter Magazine does this event called "Culture Collide" and so far, it's a good turn out. They have bands playing at The Echo, Spaceland, Taix and The Standard Hotel Downtown. It's a small music festival with a very big international band line-up. I got my wristband yesterday in the afternoon just to bet the rush. It's a good deal, only 20 bucks to see a bunch of bands in four days, but I am only here for the headliners; Klaxons, White Lies and Tokyo Police Club. Tonight is Klaxons and I can not wait to hear the new stuff. It's been what, 2 or 3 years since there last album and to see them back at the EchoPlex?!?! AWESUME! Crystal Castles opened up (that's when they where.....who is this band) for them.
suun,jdn73klaxons,jdn73
I arrived early because the wristband does not guarantee you entrance if the venue is full. It's pretty first come first serve. So I am here early and no line to get in (thank God). When I stepped in to the EchoPlex there was a band called Suuns already playing that reminded me of HomeVideo. Not bad. After there last song, I went to the T-shirt stand and I bought a Klaxons shirt. After I got my shirt, I noticed that you can go to The Echo. Awesum! We are able to walk around both venues, cool. When I went up there, the next band went on and I left back downstairs. AWFUL. Even the band that was playing downstairs was not for me, but they where at least better. When they where over I wanted to go back up stairs to catch The White Lies DJ set, but they closed it off!?!? FCVKRs! I am stuck here until midnight, when Klaxons go on. DAM!
klaxons,jdn73Klaxons hit the stage around 12:15am. Strike 1. When they came out, they did not wear there 2010 New Romantics outfits, FCVKRs! That's strike 2. But they did a killer show. The new stuff sounded GREAT live and the old stuff sounded fresh. I was surprised that the crowd was a bit tame. That was cool for me, but I was very surprised about that. I thought someone would get crazy and start a pit or something, but nothing. Not even a glow stick was present. Nice. The last song they played was "It's Not Over Yet" and they almost hit a home run with this show but they got a strike 3. No encore and people booed. It was sure over.

COLD.CAVE (LiVE!) @the.ECHO (Los Angeles, CA)

coldcave,jdn73U know how much I love cumin 2 the.ECHO. It brings back so many good memories. I use 2 come here evry Friday nite in 2002 when ELECTROCLA$H was a silly name and it was not goin anywhere but die. Well.......as U know.......the club died but the musik that was told that it will not gonna last has been proven wrong. ELECTROCLA$H is still around but under so many diff names. The musik press has been proven wrong or sum of us wood not B here 2 watch COLD.CAVE. Who new this band was from PHiLLY. I did not know. I thought they where from England until I did my background check on goggle. Goggle is so AWESUM. U can type anythin and sure enough U get sumthin. How the internet has grown. so yea.......I am here......soooooo.....EARLY. I thought the show or doors open @9:30p but my ticket say's 10p. $H*T! it was cool 2 hang outside 2 people watch and 2 hear there convo. The people in front of me was tryin 2 figure out the name of the band Tim Burgess was in (by the way, Tim Burgess is the guest DJ 4 2nite's show). I said it a couple of times under my breath but they did not hear or they just ignored me. They talked about PEACHEs show on how crazy it was. how Funny.coldcave,jdn73 The doors did open around 10:10p and the 1st band went on around 10:45p. Is it me or..........was the lead girl or singer complained alot about the equipment? I was not sure but if she was.....just play the FCVKn song or leave the stage. Her voice was annoyin. I do not want 2 hear U complain.....if it's not workin.....work around it and deal w/it later. But they SUCKEd either way. MayB that's why. Who knows. I looked in2 the crowd and alot of people R wearin black 2day. Is it 2 fit the mood 4 2nite's show......i wonder....hmm. So that AWFUL band went off and its already 11:30p. This is goin 2 B a long nite and Tim Burgess has not hit the wheels of steel yet. DAM. I kept lookin 2 C any1 @the DJ booth but no sign of him......yet. COLD.CAVE hit the stage and I moved up 2 get a closer look.coldcave,jdn73So far so good. I was impress by them. BUT.....when did they add the 3rd person in the band? I thought it was only him and the girl.....hmmm. Not bad though. I like. I am so surprised that they (musik press) have not said anythin about the leads voice (Wesley Eisold). He sounds a bit like....( I hate this....but...) Ian Curtis. It's not bad or "oh my god! anothr band". I C sumthin here and they might do well. I am in. Tim.....U R takin 2 long....goodbye and farewell. coldcave,jdn73
