Lollapalooza.2010 (Sunday)

We where getting a bit burned out so we left the hotel room around 3pm. We arrived at the fest around 4 to catch Erykah Badu. She was at the South Side of the park. Today was HOTTER then yesturday and I was flop sweating like crazy. Erykah came out and she was sporting this crazy bleached out Mohawk that looked gold when the sun hit it. But of course she was great. She was blowing a whistle like a crazy GYM teacher that I was gonna drop and give her 20. Of course she had to do a crazy thing. That's why I like her.

lollapalooza2010,jdn73,erykahbadu
After that great performance by Erykah.Badu, we went to see MGMT for Samy. We walked to the North Side and we stood there for about 5 minutes and we (well he) decided to leave. He was not digging it. So we went back to the South Side to catch Cypress Hill. His sister Racheal wanted to see them so we went. We we arrived, she wanted to go deep inside the crowd and I was like.......no. So Samy and I stayed in the back and once they came out, people pulled out there lighters and lit there joints. FCVK. Almost everyone was smoking around me and offering, but I declined. I was inhaling second hand pot smoke and I was getting hungry. This is my very first time seeing them live and they where good. Alright South Gate. Represent! They look like Gay bikers with those leather vests.

lollapalooza2010,jdn73
I was getting hungry so we took off and left the girls behind. We got are food and eat it and we went to checkout Felix Da Housecat. I was BORED and so was Samy. What's goin on? Tiga was boring. Come on guys. Go back to what you are known for. I know I know. That was it for the last day of lollapalooza and I had a blast with Samy, Elaine and Raquel. Cool concert people. Maybe next year again? Let's see.

Lollapalooza.2010 (Saturday)

lollapalooza2010,jdn73,thexx
$H*T! Today is.........HOT. We went to the BMI stage which was in the middle of the park by Lake Michigan. We went to check out Dragonette and.........We headed to the North Side of the park to catch The xx and once again, they where Awesum. Perfect for a hot day. Calm and soothing. After The xx, we walked around for a bit. Samy and I went to check out A.F.I. on the South Side and they KILLED IT! Davey (lead singer) came out with a black jacket with stuff shinning on the collor. Just to let you know, it was HOT and he was giving us a performance of a lifetime. Davey was crawling and screaming like a crazy banshee. You go girl. That haircut he had was fierce by the way. Have not seen that since the 70s on my uncle Juan fom La Puente. Feathered on the front and shaved from the side. A.F.I. knows how to put on a show. The last time I saw them was maybe 4 years ago in Long Beach for DecemberUnderground tour. That was an AWESUM show.
lollapalooza2010,jdn73,cutcopy
We went back to the North Side to catch Cut Copy. Just to let you know, it's a walk to the other side of the park, I mean a walk. give or take 15 minutes. So we sat down and you could hear Social D from the South Side. That is crazy. I guess Mike Ness wanted to pump up the place. ROCK STAR. Cut Copy went on and I was excited to hear the new tunes. They gave one out for free just last week and it's okay. It's different. Kind of folky. It's going to take a couple of listens to get use to. They played there hits and they had us dancing. I noticed that they too are all nicely dressed. They have that early Joy Division look. All grays. Nice. They played a couple of new songs and I was not to crazy feeling it.
lollapalooza2010,jdn73lollapalooza2010,jdn73,empireofthesun
We left Cut Copy after 30 minutes into the show to catch Empire of the Sun at the Perry stage (shameless). When we arrived, this place was packed with crazy kids. I noticed that there was no glowsticks around to be found, but it was insane to get around. Some people where leaving to catch Phoenix and Green Day. Once Empire of the Sun came out, it got.....CRAZY! It felt like I was in L.A. When people don't give a $H*T. They would step on you and push you out of the way to to get close to the front. $H*T. Other then that, they where......GOOD. They blew me away. It reminded me of Fischerspooner a bit. The dancing and the costumes. Very performance art. The visuals where okay, but that was alright. The whole show was.......I was just blown away and thank god I bought a ticket to the All Sold Out shows in Los Angeles. That is going to be a awesum show indooors. Yea. Day 2, gameover.

Lollapalooza.2010 (Friday)

lollapalooza2010,jdn73 I can not believe how clean Chicago is. It's a bit like San Diego but better. This is my first time here and I am here for Lollapalooza w/my friend Samy and my new friends Raquel and Elaine. The hotel is only 30 minutes from Grant Park, walking and it was not a bad walk. We got to explore the city. When I woke up in the morning, it was humid. When we came out in the afternoon, it was over cast and humid still, but tolerable. We left the hotel room around noon and we arrived to the fest around 2pm.
hotchip,lollapalooza2010,jdn73
When we arrived, I was blown away. I liked what I saw. They had a huge inflatable Lollapalooza sign in front of the park and to get in, it was fast and quick. No hour wait like Coachella. They have it together here. Even the bag search was quick. I think I can get use to this. We where inside in less then 7 minutes. LESS THEN 7minutes, COACHELLA! Once inside, I looked around and this reminded me a bit like the Detour Festival in downtown Los Angeles. You get to see cool bands surrounded by the city scape. It looks amazing.
devo,lollapalooza2010,jdn73
We walked around a bit to get to know the venue. I can not believe how huge Grant Park is. We walked passed The food court and the selection they had was really good and cheap. They even had deep dish pizza here. That takes about an hour to cook. We had deep dish pizza the first day we arrived and it was......GOOD (Gino's babe ROCKS!). We walked to the South Side of the park to catch The Big Pink. When we got there, the view was........Amazing. Then I noticed they had two stage sets here facing each other from a distance and I was wondering how that was gonna work. I did not look at the program carefully, hold up. Let's talk about the program. That thing was a pocket size book. It had pictures and a small bio on every band that was performing, with the set times and map. This place is winning me over. So impressed. Back to the stage set-up......The way it is set, one band plays first and when that band is over, the other band goes on at the opposite stage. It's the same set up at the North Side of the venue.
erolalkan,jdn73,lollapalooza
The first band we saw was The Big Pink and they where good once again. After that we went to see Devo. While we where waiting for them, I saw this guy stop in front of us and I was looking at him for a bit. Then it hit me, that is Erol Alkan! I took a quick pic of him. Cool. Devo went on and they where AWESUM! What a great performace from them and they had really cool visuals. For pulling 50 something, they sounded great and so much energy. They even had 4 costume changes. Right on......Devo. I need to see this show again indoors and at night. After Devo, we walked around and It's a walk the the North Side.
ladygaga,jdn73,lollapalooza2010
I wanted to checkout Neon Trees and I was not having them. Let's move on. We went back to the South Side to catch Hot Chip and once again, they killed it. They are dressing so nicely and well gromed. Check them out. No more baggy shirts and pants. Everything all nicely tailored. They don't look like geeks anymore. I miss that. After that we left to get some food. We passed by Chromeo and they opened up witha new song that sounded promising. We ate and headed to catch Lady Gaga. Now it was only Samy and I. His sister and her friend went to catch Erol Alkan. We did too and he was good. But once Tiga went on stage and he was playing a lame set. What is he doing? I liked the stuff he use to play back in 2003. So we decided to leave after 15 minutes and headed to see Gaga. We arrived and the place was getting full with Gaga Monsters. She went on time but she sang behind this huge curtain projecting her shadow on it. The curtain was lefted almost half way through her song. The stage was cool. It looked like a Broadway musical. She had her dancers and I leaned over to Samy and said, "is that Grace Jones?". But of course I was kidding around. We only heard 3 songs and left to catch The Strokes. Boy was that a SHOW!
tiga,lollapalooza2010,jdn73
This is my first time seeing The Strokes and they Kicked A$$. They had this really cool old school Jumbo Tron on the background that displayed simple visuals in red. What a differance from Lady Gaga's outragouas stage. Simple sometimes is better and it showed here. The Strokes played the hits and from what I hear, Mr Casablancas was a bit tipsy. Rock Star. I did not see the person helping him (Julian Lead Singer) back on stage when they did the encore. Thats what Samy told me. ROCK STAR! Other then him being a bit messy, they sounded great and I would not mind seeing them again in the future. Day 1 is over. A-

Hercules.&.Love.Affair LiVE! @the.EchoPlex (L.A. CA)

herculesandloveaffair,theechoplex,jdn73
Really? Why? The beatmatching is not perfect asshole and really? More mash up. Put that $H*T to rest. Hercules and Love Affair does not go on until 11p. It's very lite here today, but the cool thing, they have shirts this time. YEA. What? Only tank tops. I'll take it. It's hard to get a Hercules shirt. Just to let you know.
herculesandloveaffair,theechoplex,jdn73
The 1st band went on and.....Oh wow, look at the floor, it's pretty. This band is something out of the 80's. The music sounds like the soundtrack to Beverly Hills Cop 1 & 2. The crowd is more entertaining. I see someone with a red Member Only jacket and all he needs to do is B-Dazzle that $H*T and he has that Michael Jackson "Beat It" jacket. Of course this band had to play a Prince song. Nailed it! Did I just see a glittered toms?!?! WTF?!?!?!
herculesandloveaffair,theechoplex,jdn73
When that wanna-be Prince band went off stage they started to cler the stage for Hercules and I mean clear. The set up is very different from what I saw. No drum set or guitar stands, just turntables, mixer, a Apple lap-top computer and three mic's. Three microphones? I am so curious on what the new stuff is gonna sound. I know that Naomi left the band to start Jessica 6 w/Andrew Raposo (who also left Hercules). Jessica.6 are okay but they need a couple of good songs to top "Fun Girl". The EchoPlex is starting to get packed with all kinds of people, but I never see any transgenders, pre op's or post op's at a Hercules concert. Why is that? I love that Andy Butler (the man behind Hercules) puts a transgender as a singer. I think that is so cool. From what I know, Kim Ann Foxman (lead adorable singer) is still in the group. Nice. I like her. She reminds me of M.C. Kinky.
herculesandloveaffair,theechoplex,jdn73
Hercules went on around 11:15p and they KiLLED iT! The new music that they played sound so promising. It had this old school 90's house disco beat to it. I like. Even the new singer that took Naomi's place reminded me of that genre. She wore this brown blouse with white polka dots and she had her hair done up like that singer in C&C Music Factory, but she was not hit the high notes like Naomi does. She was a bit flat. Even the other new singer was okay. They both where transgenders and they worked that stage as if it was the last day of there tour (which it was). They all looked like they where having fun. Kim Ann came out wearing this really colorful jacket that reminded me of Boy George circa 1980. She is so cute. I have a crush on her. There was another new member helping Andy Butler out with the knobs in the background. I forgot his name, but Andy was giving him high praises. Now......let's talk about Mr. Andy Butler. Wow, he is looking good. He lost alot of weight from the last time I saw this band. Right on. He to was having fun dancing and enjoying himself with the ladies. The really cool thing about this show was.......I saw people dancing! Yes dancing. So it took 2 transgenders, a lesbian, a gay man and I think a straight guy to have everyone dance here at the EchoPlex is very impressing. I would turn around and I would see people smiling and having a great time. That is so strange here in Los Angeles, but Hercules and Love Affair made that happen. AWESUM! A+

Empire.of.the.Sun LiVE! @the.Fonda (L.A. CA)

I arrived at the Fond around 9 and they have not gone on yet. I knew it. No opener just a DJ all dressed in black w/A mask on that looked very Mardi Gras w/spike wrist bands like Judas Priest in the 80s. Devil sign. He was a good DJ and loved what he played. He had another person on stage and all she did was sit there w/sum shades on wearing a two piece bikini. The DJ would walk up to her and she would feed him sum snacks. Okay. I guess this is the new thing, Performance Art DJ. Well, they sure took it to another level. Loved the dramatic exit. He stood there looking at us as if to worship him. Step down please.empireofthesun,jdn73
The new Fonda, Music Box what ever it's called these days looks okay. Just a few changes. They added some decks on the sides and they have a huge mural of Hieronymus Bosch (Painter who is famous for "The Garden of Earthly Delights") on the walls. Right on. The Performance Art Dj got off around 930p. So we waited for Empire of the Sun for about an hour to hit the stage. Boy was it worth the wait. They killed it but no one was dancing around me. What? Oh well. It worked out for me because at Lollapalooza I was being shoved and stepped on and I was faraway to notice stuff. Tonight I am only 10 feet away from the stage and I was ready to push anyone who was gonna do the same here, but it was a tame crowd. Groovy.empireofthesun,jdn73empireofthesun,jdn73
The costumes looked amazing up close and I noticed a second drummer. Did not see that last time. But once again, I was blown away from what I saw. Can some one please wake up the people around me. Sux that my new found friends where stuck in the balcony. Sorry Elaine and Raquel but I was dancing for you guys. I waved at them and they looked so bored up there. Sux. Did he come out on a wheelchair looking like Flavor Flav. HAhahahahah. Okay. Other then the crowd around me who had a bad case of the Rigormortis, I had a great time and they sounded and looked AMAZING!!!!!! BreakDown!empireofthesun,jdn73

LADY.GAGA. LiVE @the.Staple.Center (LOs Angeles, CA)

ladygaga,ladygaga,ladygaga,jdn73,jdn73,jdn73
Wow! This show was better then the one I saw in Chicago (which I'll post soon). I always say, "concerts are better indoors". The sound was amazing at the Staple. She sounded good and I love the fact that she spoke to her fans alot. She even picked out one that was over the top dressed and she asked him/her (could not tell) if they made it and they said "yes". She was impressed and they showed him/her on the JumboTron. Right on.ladygaga,jdn73
She was killing this concert. She had specials guest's on (J/k) like Grace Jones and cousin It. Wait......was that Britney on the JumboTron? Well, they looked like them. Tonight Gaga looked like Britney Spears instead of Madonna. What I loved the most where the videos she showed while getting dressed. They where really good and I loved the hard beats that went with them. Some of the videos reminded me of Nine Inch Nails "Closer" video w/a twist of Marilyn Manson. It got me thinking, these videos are dark. She is so Goth.
ladygaga,jdn73
When I saw her at Lollapolloza she was just okay. It felt cheesy and I was a bit scared, but she pulled it off tonight. Did she just made fun of us (L.A. people)? Right on. I like when artist do that just to see the reaction on some people faces. What she said was true. "You do not have to be pretty or need alot of plastic surgery the way you have been told Los Angeles. You can make it". She brought up Prop 8. To keep pushing for it across America and the world. "Jesus loves us for what ever we are and we where born Gay and Jesus loves boys and girls". Right on Gaga. She has my vote.
ladygaga,jdn73
Gaga played the new song and it sounded great live. Reminded me of Queen. What a change and what a risk she took and I think it's gonna pay off. This is my first time ever seeing a Pop artist live. Did not liked her at first until I read that Rolling Stone interview and that "Poker Face" song. I was gaga for Gaga. Is that a monster on the stage? She crazy. That $H*T was crazy big huge. I think she went a bit to far with that crazy puppet master $H*T. It was a bit messy but in a good way. Who needs perfection, right?. Just go with it.
ladygaga,jdn73
"Bad Romance" was the last song and what a great tune to end this Halloween party at the Staple Center. A- Miss Gaga. You had with.......

ZOLA.JESUS LiVE! @the.ECHO (Los Angeles, CA)

jdn73 There was a huge line to get in even though you where on will call. The line moved quick and once I was in, it is light in here. Of course they are playing the Creatures and a couple of Sioux songs & early Joy Division (Warsaw). So far I like the crowd. All in black and some are wearing white powder makeup. So Goth it is 2nite. It feels af if I just stepped into the early 80s until the opening band came out.jdn73zolajesus,jdn73 Now it feels like I just stepped into some crazy 70's space age $H*T. This band came out wearing these space age outfits. The sound was very 70s cheesy rock. I looked into the crowd and I see some older people In the crowd. This band is s trip. I have no idea if this band is new or old. Everyone up there looks young except the guitarist. He looks like he is pushing 70. zolajesus,jdn73 When I arrived at home I looked up that crazy band and there name is The Fancy Space People. The older guy in the group was Don Boles of The Germs. That explains the crowd. Rock on and pack it in. zolajesus,jdn73
Zola Jesus went on around 12:20am (so Goth) and they where good. They are 3 members in the group. Both guys play the synthesizer. The lead singer was female. Nika Roza Danilova is her name and I loved that she kept walking back and forth alot on the stage like a witch. Well, she did look like one with her long blond hair and black dress with a little hunch. Nika kept on grabbing mic stands from the stage floor and putting them on the front. I guess she needed some props. Then she kindly put them away and grab a chair. She stood on it for awhile then put it away with the mic's. She was entertaining to watch. She even went into the crowd and did her thing. Walking back and forth like she was on stage. But I do not see why they compare her to Siouxsie Sue. Nika has her own thing going on here in Zola Jesus. I like it. Once again, they are from here (Arizona) and they are getting Huge press in England. They open up for Fever Ray in there European Tour. That's HUGE. Good for them. I would see them again. Is that "Cities in Dust" by Siouxsie & the Banshees? How funny. The venue played it after they got off stage. Funny.
