Portishead.2011
@the.Shrine.Expo.Center(Los Angeles, CA)
Tuesday.October.18.2011

Already being asked for my ticket and I have not arrived to the venue yet.  That's pretty crazy.  I heard both shows SOLD OUT quick.  I thought it was gonna sale very slowly because the cost to see them is $50.oo, but with the service charge from Ticketmaster, it comes up to $70.oo each.  That's not including the $20.00 parking in there structure.  Of course I know the neighborhood and I parked 4 blocks away from The Shrine (score).

I met up with my friend Steven and we arrived at a perfect time.  It was not packed yet, but to get a good space up front was getting crowded already.  We headed to the shirt stand and....WOW!   That line was HUGE.  They sold coffee cups and titanium water bottles.  I was surprised they did not sell any tote bags (I wanted one if they did).  I waited after the show to get a shirt and the line was STILL HUGE!
jdn73,portishead,triphop,shrineexpo,losangeles,concertThey had a opening band and they where good.  They reminded me of Esteban & the Witch, but better.  The only problem, each songs they played where to long.  They need to cut them short.

It started to get busy and of course you had those people that want to be up front.  Some lady next to me freaked out on one tall guy that gently pushed his way.  He stood in front of her for a second and then he moved.  The crowd was older and mellow and well behaved.  no craziness.
jdn73,portishead,triphop,shrineexpo,losangeles,concertThe last time I was here at The Shrine Expo was when The.Chemical.Brothers preformed here in the mid 90's.  They held ALOT of underground parties here and I attended half of them.  It was between La Casa and the Shrine for those famous underground parties, because they where cracking down the warehouses.  Fun times.
jdn73,portishead,triphop,shrineexpo,losangeles,concertPortishead went on and they K!LLED !T.  The visuals where simple, but AMAZING.   Beth Gibbons (Lead Singer) voice was on point.  She sounded GREAT and so much like the album.  Not alot of artist can pull that off, but Beth does.  She is so shy because everytime she stopped singing, she would face the direction of Geoff Barrow (the Genius).  I was surprised that she was standing...UP!  The only time she sat down to sing a song was, "Wondering Star".  Okay...they did an AWESOME remake of the song.  They stripped it down (way...DOWN) and it was incredible that I want it.
jdn73,portishead,triphop,shrineexpo,losangeles,concertThey played the new one, "Chase the Tear" (which is almost a year and a half old) in the middle of the show.  You would think that was the song to end the night.  They sold the single at the booth for $20.oo (Okay...REALLY!  Thats CRAZY!).  That's to high for a 12'inch record.  They played alot from the first album,  a few from the second and some from the third.  I wish I could go to the 2nd night, but NYC is calling.

The.Drums.2011
@EchoPlex.(Los Angeles, CA)
Monday.October.17.2011

This concert is gonna be a long niter.  The Drums are scheduled to go on at midnight.  FCVK.  Really, midnight?!  $H!T, another late night.  I did not come home from Detroit Bar until 1am because the 405 was shut down by the 605 fwy.  So we all had to get off and take the streets.
jdn73,thedrums,echoplex,losangeles,indie,concert,musicThe first band was...(no comment) and IO Echo was a BORE.  I saw them before and they where okay, but this time around, they rubbed me the wrong way.  It looks like they are trying to hard to be a über cool band. The lead singer kept pushing her guitarists around (Punk rock) and I was surprised they did fall or lose a note.  They might of choreographed this.

The crowd was getting a bit rowdy.  There was this guy with a couple of friends with him (of course he was...DRUNK), pushing his way up to the very front of the stage.  He was trying to push the girls that where on the rail.  They really stood there ground.  They pushed him away a couple times.  I was very surprise that his friends did not calm him down.  They just laughed as if it was cute.
jdn73,thedrums,echoplex,losangeles,indie,concert,musicOnce The.Drums hit the stage (they played The Smiths "How Soon Is Now?"), it got crazy.  It was a good crazy, but there's that guy again, trying to push these girls off the rail.  Where is security at this point to kick this guy out.  You gotta give it up to the ladies, they kept him away.  I felt bad for them .  Sure enough, a guy that was next to the girls, grabbed him by his coller and pushed him away.  It worked, but where was this guy in the beginning?
jdn73,thedrums,echoplex,losangeles,indie,concert,musicThe.Drums threw an AMAZING show once again.  I got my ticket at the last minute and thank God I did.  I LOVE the new album, "Portamento".  It got a mixed review on NME (of course), but they are comparing them to The Smiths lately.  Which I can see and hear on the way Jonathan Pierce (Lead Singer) writes his words to his songs.  Very Patrick.  The more I listen to this album and the lyrics, I hear it.  You need to get Potramento.

When the show was over, there was a guy saying, "They did not play, Let's Go Surfing!".  I guess he didn't get the memo.  They are trying to stay away from that song, but that song put them on the map.  Rock on!

Metronomy.2011
@Detroit.Bar (Costa Mesa, CA)
Sunday.October.16.2011

So glad that they decided to come back to Southern California.   Another ticket I gave away when I was on vacation.  Metronomy are always fun to watch and Detroit Bar is a good space to see bands.

Tonight's show was SOLD OUT and it doesn't look that busy.  I guess some people are by the bar and lounge area watching it on TV.  Who goes to a concert and watches it on the monitors?  That's crazy and funny at the same time.
jdn73,metronomy,concert,dance,electro,music,detroitbarMetronomy hit the stage and what a great show.  There where some problems, but it was only the main speakers going in and out a couple of times.  The monitors where on and you could still hear them.  After a couple of songs in, Joseph Mount (Lead Singer) pointed out to use that the roof was leaking.  He took care of the problem by placing his drinking glass to catch the drops that where landing on his synth.

They played the hits and I was so excited when they played, "Connie" (my favorite song from the new album).  It took me awhile to get into the new album, "The English Riviera".  I wasn't crazy about there second single, "The Look".  I liked the remixes and hearing it today, changed my mind.  By the way,  if you like or don't like Lady Gaga, Metronomy did a remix of "Yoü and I" and it's FCVKn amazing.  It's a MUST download!!!!!
jdn73,metronomy,concert,dance,electro,music,detroitbarI was next to Oscar Cash (Synthesizer, Sax and other instruments).  He is always interesting to watch.  He always does his little dance and crazy hand movements.  Every member has there thing.  Anna Prior (Drums) was hitting those kits like she was killing a rat that just crossed her path and she was dressed very pretty too.  Gbenga  Adelekan (Bass) was doing it.  He was also fun to watch and BOY...was he getting down with that bass guitar.  They always look like they are having a great time and what CHEMISTRY!

Cut.Copy.2011
(Los Angeles, CA)
Wednesday.October.12.2011

WHAT?!?!?  I am up front at the Palladium?!   I'm never been right up front leaning against the rail.  Its almost 9 o'clock and the place is kind of empty.  You would think this concert would be sold out, but no.  The line up is GREAT and Cut Copy threw a kick a$$ show at Coachella this year.  So why a lite crowd?   I rushed here to catch Midnight Magic, but they have not gone up yet.
jdn73,cutcopy,hollywoodpalladium,losangeles,concert,indie,musci,washedout,midnightmagicMidnight Magic was up and on bass was Andrew Raposo (he's from Jessica 6 and ex Hercules & Love Affair bass player),  how many bands is this guy bass playing for?  What a busy guy.  Midnight Magic is doing something different from what other dance bands are doing right now.  They are bringing 70's disco back to the dance floor with a 90's twist.  They played a couple of songs and they did a good job in pumping the crowd.  They got some of us moving and they where good.  If it wasn't for that free download from Scion, I would of not heard about them.
jdn73,cutcopy,hollywoodpalladium,losangeles,concert,indie,musci,washedout,midnightmagicWashed Out was up next and they did pretty good.  Nothing new or different from the last time I saw them at the EchoPlex.  I looked around and it started to get busy.
jdn73,cutcopy,hollywoodpalladium,losangeles,concert,indie,musci,washedout,midnightmagicCut Copy hit the stage and what a show!  Of course people went crazy when they played, "Light & Magic", but it wasn't as bananas as Coachella...that was insane.   I was looking forward to the door that they displayed really cool visuals.  I wonder why they didn't bring it with them this time?

They actually played "Sun God" in it's entirety and it was FCVKn AWESUM!   Tim Hoey (Guitar/Sampler) was all over place, but in a good way.  Couldn't keep my eyes off him. He was always doing something crazy.  Tim Hoey would get his guitar and drag it along the stage to get some noise.  There are times when he would get a tambourin and hit the symbols harder then the drummer.  He was pretty wild.  You would think the crowd would be wild too, but where I was at, they kept it together.
jdn73,cutcopy,hollywoodpalladium,losangeles,concert,indie,musci,washedout,midnightmagicIf you haven't gotten the new album; Zonoscope or seen them live, you are missing out.   Everytime I see them, they throw an AMAZING show and they NEVER disappoint.

jdn73,culturecollide. echopark

Culture.Collide.2011.
Day.4.
Sunday.October.9.2011
Toyota.Antics.Block.Concert

This is my first time coming to the outdoor event and I am kicking myself for
not coming last year. It's a mini Sunset/Junction. They had food trucks, live painter's painting and all sorts of other cool things. They had two stages. The smaller stage was a fold out stage. Never seen anything like it and I didn't know they made something like that. It must be imported from the Mid-West.
jdn73,culturecollide. echopark
I arrived around 6 and I thought it was gonna be hard to get in, but it wasn't.
You had to print out a ticket for this event in order to get in, but they never asked for it. They just saw your wristband and let you in. Why have us print out a ticket? Not very green.
jdn73,culturecollide. echopark,clapyourhandssayyea,indie,rock,music,festival
Clap Your Hands Say Yea went on time and they where not as bad as I thought they where gonna be. Not the most exciting band, but they where okay and they sounded good. I heard bad stories about them live. They where okay on my case and I would see them again.
jdn73,culturecollide. echopark,clapyourhandssayyea,indie,rock,music,festival,css,datarock
Next at the fold out stage was Datarock. They where good, but I had to leave.
I was next to a speaker that was really FCVKn up my ear. I noticed I was not
the only one having this problem. So after three songs, I left and walked
around. I noticed a bunch of family here. I guess they are here for CSS.
jdn73,culturecollide. echopark,clapyourhandssayyea,indie,rock,music,festival,css
I went to the main stage to catch CSS and it was already getting crowded with
people. CSS hit the stage right when Datarock finished(they are quick here).
Lovefoxxx came out wearing a Catwomen costume with here mask all bedazzled. I notices that Adriano Cintra (Bass Player) was not on stage.
Someone else filled in his spot. Lovefoxxx (Lead Singer) did not even mention him on his
where abouts. Was he sick or did he leave the band? What ever the case, I miss
his crazy energy, but Lovefoxxx took care of that. She was making jokes, "okay
guys, dance like Shakira" and she would do the dance moves. Funny.
Once again, little by little she would strip down to her short shorts and stage
dive into the crowd.

In the middle of the set, the main speakers went out, but the stage monitors
where on. People stopped jumping and dancing, but once they
fixed it, people cheered and went back to what they where doing. All the new
songs sounded GREAT. They started out with "Red Alert" and ended with "City
Girl". If you haven't gotten the NEW album, "La Liberacion" it's a MUST. What a GREAT comeback album. The put the fun back.
jdn73,culturecollide. echopark,clapyourhandssayyea,indie,rock,music,festival,css,datarock,ganggangdance
Next band was Gang Gang Dance on the fold out stage. I keep hearing so much
about them and I am waiting to see what kind of show they are gonna put on. The
person next to me was so excited to see them and he couldn't wait to hear some
killer dance music. Dance music? I was...confused because they are far away
from dance music. Gang Gang Dance are Avant Garde Experimental dance band. Maybe heheard a remix.

Gang Gang Dance came out and Lizzi Bougatsos (Lead Singer) came out wearing a
mosquito net looking outfit (Now that is Avant Garde). They had okay visuals, but they where NOT holding my interest. After 2 songs, I left and walked around. The event was slowly wrapping things up. I wanted more and it was only 9 o'clock. They said midnight. Maybe there was more in Tiax. I'll be back next year because for twenty bucks, it's a deal.

\m/ \m/ \m/ \m/ \m/ - AWESOME!

Day.1
Lindstrøm.@EchoPlex
Thursday.October.6.2011

Another year of great bands.  I noticed that Does It Offend You, Yeah? pulled out or they did not get there visa's.  Sux!  I wanted to see them again.  This time with James Rushent (Lead Singer) singing because the last time he was sick and the band performed without him.
jdn73,cosmickids,lindstrom,culturecollide,echopark,echoplex,losangeles I arrived early to the EchoPlex because they don't guarantee you a spot.  It's first come first serve.  I was surprised that it's still $20.00 for the whole event.  That is four days of music and it takes place around Echo Park.  Once inside, it was empty.  You can say, maybe 30 of us in the venue, so I went upstairs to The Echo to catch, Rainbow Arabia.
jdn73,cosmickids,lindstrom,culturecollide,echopark,echoplex,losangeles,rainbowarabiaRainbow Arabia was okay, but I can hardly make out what Tiffany Preston (Lead Singer)  was singing.  After a couple of songs, I went back downstairs and it was still empty.  You would think there would be a crowd for Lindstrøm and he does not go on until 11p.
jdn73,cosmickids,lindstrom,culturecollide,echopark,echoplex,losangelesLindstrøm went on and he was good.  He played a couple of his own songs.  There where some people dancing, but it never got busy.

What?!?! No shake, shake, shake, shake, shake, shake, shake, shake?!?!?!?!  "Out Of The Races and Onto The Tracks" was not played and that is an OUTRAGE, but they played, "Olio"! Ahhhhhhhhh, FCVKn love that song and I liked how they changed it up and it sounded so fresh.

This is my first time at The Belly Up and I like this place.  It reminded me of the House of Blues, but in a surfer way.  The venue was at Solana Beach (never been and what a quiet town).  All the shops where close.   There was nothing around that was open to just chill at.
jdn73,therapture,thebellyup,indiemusic,newyorkcity,rock,lukejenner,sandiegoOnce inside,  we made are way to the front.  We (Diana and I) where five feet away from the stage.   The place was busy and the concert was NOT sold out.  From the outside, The Belly Up looks small, but once inside it's big.  It's the size of the EchoPlex.
jdn73,therapture,indiemusic,newyorkcity,thebellyup,sandiego,dancepunkThe Rapture hit the stage and I was surprise on how tame the crowd was.  No one hardly danced and no one started some crazy mosh-pit when they played, "House of Jealous Lovers".  I thought the crowd was gonna go mad when they played that song, but...NO!  It was...DEAD!  When I saw this, it mad me wanna go see them in LA because I know that the  LA crowd would tear that $H!T apart (I just heard that at the Pomona show, there was a fight in the middle of that song, that the band stopped playing.  CRAZY.).   It's so interesting to see how different a city is.  I love the calm, but when they play a hit, you gotta get crazy.  You don't want to be the only standout.
jdn73,thebellyup,sandiego,rock,music,indiemusic,dancepunk,therapture,newyorkcityJust like Interpol (the loss of Carlos D), you really did not miss Mattie Safer (old bassist, which Carlos D was too, bassist).  They replaced him with another guy that they did not introduce.  I guess he is...temporary?

It is always great to see Luke Jenner (Lead Singer) connect with the crowd.  He stage dived and sang in the crowd.  It this a trend for the new decade?  If so, I like.

They closed the night with "Sail Away".  Luke Jenner told us that the person in the cover on the new album, "In The Grace of Your Heart" (which is, a AWESUM album that you should get) is his father.  Right on.

Erasure.2011
@Hollywood.Palladium.(Los Angeles, CA)
Saturday.October.1.2011

The first time I saw them was the Circus Tour when Andy Bell (Singer) wore a red leotard with black tights or vise versa?  I forgot.  I was 18...I think, but it was a AWESUM show from what I remembered and it was another AWESUM show tonight!  They never disappointed me yet.
erasure,80s,electro,pop,jdn73,anybell,vinceclarke,musicAndy Bell still owns the stage and what energy he still has.  I kept looking at him and I was wondering if he had some work done.  If he did, good for him.  Besides getting work done, the design of the stage  was simple compared to the past shows.  It was a Medieval Theme.  They had a couple of gargoyles on stage and Vince Clarke (the genius)  used one as his podium to place his laptop.
erasure,80s,electro,pop,jdn73,anybell,vinceclarke,musicFrankmusik was the opener and...yea.  Was not into it.  He reminded me of a cheesy Calvin Harris.  Frankmusik produced the New Erasure album (which I have not gotten yet).

After Frankmuzik, it was that DJ guy that STILL plays mash-up.  FCVK, really!  So, yea.  I noticed him Diva out a bit and he played some wacky $H!T.  I preferred Frankmusik.

I looked around and sure enough, I had to be close to a person who went to my high school (South Gate High).  I really don't know him very well, but he lost some weight.  I was going to, but decided not to.  I was next to him through the who show.  Funny.  And...I did not know he was, gay.  Oh, South Gayte, I love you.
erasure,80s,electro,pop,jdn73,anybell,vinceclarke,musicErasure went on and what a show.  It brought me back to high school and it felt great.  They started with a new song.  From there on, it was hit after hit and then a new song.  Here is the set list:

New Song

New Song
Blue Savannah
New Song
Breath of Life
Drama
New Song
Ship of Fools

Victim of Love
New Song

Love to Hate You
New Song

I couldn't believe that they played "Hideaway".  One of my favorite songs.  That song has so much meaning.  I wish I knew some of the new songs, but they sounded really...GOOD.  I can not wait for my copy (I hope soon).

Identity, love, sexuality, and family are explored in this contemporary drama. When shy Michelle meets outgoing Lou, they are surprised by the connection that sparks between them. They are both pre-op transsexuals, and the quest to understand their own identities deepens as an unlikely friendship—and romance—blossoms. Michelle and Lou embark on a journey of self-acceptance, but they can’t shut out the rest of the world, where many people, including their own families, are not so accepting of the path they’re on. The two must confront those who aren’t willing to live and let live, with dire consequences.

Friday.September.30.2011

SOLD OUT!  Who knew.  I came in when Com Truise was on.  He was good and he had the crowd going.  Com Truise was not spinning, he was moving knobes, not like Daedelus. It was different.  He had a live drummer playing the beats.
jdn73,neonindian,thetroubadour,indie,electro,dance,music,comtruiseThe crowd was young and sure enough, there was a little scuffle.  Not to crazy, but it was some young girls trying to move up front.  They bumped into the wrong guy and he was cursing them out.  It was crazy to watch this tall, stocky and nerdy looking guy saying crap to a 5'1 girl.  Just let her go and trip her while she passes by, I do.
jdn73,neonindian,thetroubadour,indie,electro,dance,music,comtruiseNeon.Indian went on and they where really good.  For some strange reason, they reminded me of early O.M.D.  There is only one girl in the band (plays the synthesizer).  They had this crazy machine that looked like a pyramid that was covered up at first.  I thought it was gonna do some crazy Lazer light show, but no.  It just leaked smoke and blinked a light a couple of times in different colors.  GROOVY?!
jdn73,neonindian,thetroubadour,indie,electro,dance,music,comtruiseAlan Paloma (Lead Singer who happens to be Mexican, right on) was a entertainer.  He was cutting a rug on stage (dancing).  The girls next to me where going crazy. It's their Elvis. Cute.  No wonder they pushed to the front and of course, happen to land next to me.  Thank God the speaker was blocking them from me.

If you haven't gotten Era Extrańa (album title), you should.  It's GOOD.  Just like the concert.

The.Horrors.2011
@El.Rey Theatre (Los Angeles, CA)
Thursday.September.15.2011

Now this was a...SHOW!!!  Did not know what to except from them and I was BLOWN AWAY!

When I got close to the venue, I was hit up twice for my ticket.  I didn't know this concert was SOLD OUT until I was in line for my ticket at will call.  I came close to seeing them at Detroit Bar and I should of went.  I downloaded the new album (Skying) and it's FCVKn AMAZING .  It's better then "Primary Colors".  Who knew this band was gonna BREAK, B!G T!ME.  No one new (not even myself).  Just like Radiohead.  Everybody thought after Pablo Honey, they would be gone.  But they surprised us with a Great second album, just like The Horrors.     Just to let you know, I am NOT comparing them to Radiohead, just the journey.
jdn73,thehorrors,indie,rock,concert,losangeles,elreytheaterI arrived early so I can get a good spot (which I did).  The first band went on and...DAM!  I am stuck here and I don't want to lose my spot.  DAM!!!!!

The Horrors hit the stage and what a calm crowd it was.  No drunks, no pushers to the front or some a$$hole on his/her phone through the whole show.  The set went quick...I guess because I was enjoying the show.  The Horrors played nothing from there first album.   I wonder why they didn't.
jdn73,thehorrors,indie,rock,concert,losangeles,elreytheaterThe last time I saw The.Horrors was only for 5 minutes at last year's Coachella.  All I heard was feed back and they left the stage. They had ten more minutes to play, I guess they got tired.  Who knows, but what a show tonight.  I was never bored and every member had there own characteristic.

At Viva.Brother show, I decided to introduce myself to her.  She cool peep's.  Zowie has a cool radio show on Fridays from 5-6pm on Moheak.com. Check it out. She plays REALLY cool music.

He was camera shy, so no pictures, just signatures.  There where a couple of us out here and I just watched from afar.
