Penguin.Prison.@Mercury.Lounge.(NYCity)

Penguin.Prison.2011
Penguin.Prison.2011
@Mercury.Lounge.(NYCity)
Thursday.December.15.2011

I am soooo early for this SOLD OUT show tonight.  It gives me time to explore this small venue that I always hear about.  So far, it's a really cool space.  It reminds me of CineSpace (Los Angeles club on Hollywood Blvd.), but smaller.
Gemini.Club.2011Gemini.Club (from Chicago) was the opening band and they where okay.  This is there first time in NYCity.  The lead singer was a bit stiff, while the other members where moving to the music. They had some cool beats to there music.  I would of liked to have seen the lead singers connect with the crowd.  He wore his Ray Band sunglasses through the whole show.  He blamed the bright lights.  Sure, someone just did some coke before the concert.

When they got off stage, the person next to me compared them to Cut.Copy and Pet.Shop.Boys.  Really?  Did not hear the comparison.  They sounded different, but no where near those bands.  They had there own sound that was not interesting to me.  I bet, this is not the end of them.

The second band was from Hawaii and they had a laid back sound to there music.  Think of Vampire.Weekend with a caribbean twist to there sound.  They had JUST ONE cool dance rock song and they should do more of that.  The rest was very forgotten that I wished they would of gone first.  At least the lead singer connected with us and had personality.
Penguin.Prison.2011Penguin.Prision came out and they where okay.  Not what I expected from them.  I thought they where gonna be a bit like Cut.Copy.  I looked into the crowd and they where loving Penguin.Prision.  I was trying to get into it like the rest of the people, but it was not working.  I just stood and looked at the people dance and sing to every song they performed.  I  have two songs from them that where free.  They where good remix songs.  I did not do my research on Penguin.Prison.  If I did, I would of known that they where from New York City and not from England.  D0RK.

Beady.Eye.(L!V3) @Terminal.5.(NYCity)

Beady.Eye.2011
Beady.Eye.2011
@Terminal.5.(NYCity)
Friday.December.9.2011

At least this crazy FCVKr is not charging $70.00 just to see the other brother,  but we all know who came out with the BETTER album.  Sorry Liam.  I have the feeling, that both brothers are going to be at Coachella.2012.  If they do perform, I wonder on the same day and at the same time.  That would be a showdown.  Just a little taste because of the way they where with Blur in the 90's.

This is my first time at Terminal 5 and it's a really cool venue.  It's the size of Webster Hall's main floor, but it's not as big.  I walked around and the people are a bit older.  Not to many hipsters kids around.  Long lines to get drinks, trouble already.

Before Beady.Eye went on, they played The Stone Roses "I Am the Resurrection".  What a perfect song to play to get the show going.  Now, I really hope they play Coachella.2012 since they are back together.  That would make my year of 2012.  If they don't,  let's see if they play Lollapalozza.2012.  Crossing fingers and toes.
Beady.Eye.2011Liam Gallagher came out wearing a green trench coat (I wonder from his line) with a scarf.  He NEVER took the coat off and he sweat through it.  First you see sweat on his back.  After two songs, you see sweat under his arm.  Coat still does not come off.  Then you start to see sweat from his chest.  He is CRAZY!!!  Why didn't he take the dam thing off?!  Did he not have a shirt underneath?  I know it's cold out, but he is under lights.  Besides his heavy flop sweating, he was interesting to watch.
Beady.Eye.2011I know that Noel (his brother) wouldn't bring any drama to the show, like Liam would.  From the first song, he would look at the techie guy.  On the second song, he looked at him again.  This time, Liam told him to turn it up with a hand gesture.  On the third song,  he walked up to him before he sang the song.  He did it again on the fourth song.  I am surprised he didn't stop the music or told him off.
Beady.Eye.2011Beady.Eye where good and they had a couple of young members in the band with ex Oasis bandmates.  Liam Gallagher did his signature stand with his hands behind his back. The lighting was REALLY good and they had some cool visuals to go with the show.  They almost played the whole album, "Different Gear, Still Speeding", but no Oasis songs!  Why not?  I know that Noel is singing some on his tour. Sux.  Liam needs to stop being cocky.

On the encore, before he sang, someone shouted something. Liam walked towards the person and the guitarist held him back.  Liam was cool and sang the song.  Did he go to some anger management classes?  During the encore song, I saw two guys with there shirts OFF and twirling the shirt up in the air.  That's funny a$$ hell.   I wonder if they where the one's who came in with a Murse (man bag/man purse)?  Label Murse.

Thursday.December.8.2011

Housse.De.Racket sure caused a racket!!!  I was NOT gonna come to this concert until I read the opening band and they did NOT disappoint.  The first song they played was not so great, but after that, it was a great performance from them.  This is the first time for Housse.de.Racket  in the USA.  I have no idea if they are going to Los Angeles or San Fransisco.  If not, they are gonna miss out on a GREAT band.
Housse.de.Racket.2011Once I walked inside Webster.Hall, they where playing The Rapture "How Deep is Your Love?".  After Housse.de.Racket performance, they are playing the whole "Fever To Tell" album from Yeah Yeah Yeahs.   They are keeping it real tonight or YELLE requested this?  It always made me wonder.  Take a second and notice the music change.  I have the feeling that the headliner picks the music (sometimes).  Right after "Maps", the  lights went out, but they did not go on until "Y Control".  They should of waited after "Modern Romance" (LOVE that song).
Housse.de.Racket.2011YELLE came out with that dirty green looking shag again.  I noticed her symbol was not up.  She only did two costume changes and they where different outfits from last time.  No orange brite leopard outfit, just regular color with some gold.
Yelle.2011Ahhhhh, they  played "le musique" (made my Top.50.Songs.of.2011).  The crowd was very well behave until.....  I don't know if they where a couple, but they just shoved some people to the side to get to the front.  People gave some dirty looks at them, but no one caused a scene.  It surprises me because this is the city that pushes and shoves you if you don't move.  So far, no one has started a fight.  If this happened in Los Angeles, you would be crucified.  Of course, they came towards  my side and a girl next to me noticed that they blocked my view.  They where tall by the way.  She leaned over and told me, "people are such a$$hole$ sometime's".  "True, but this what you get at a concert", I told her.  She was cool to noticed my tough time looking over them and they where D!CK$.  They spoke to each other non-stop and looked at there phone.  I never get that.  I NEVER pick up phone during a performer on stage.  ONLY, during intermission.  I'll text back, but I'll NEVER call.  That CRAZY!!!  Who wants to yell and compete with the music and crowd?  Why look at your phone during a show?  Lonely?  Have a short attention span?  A$$hole!!!  But...it's a concert.
Yelle.2011Besides all that, Yelle kicked A$$ from the last time I saw her at the Music.Box (Los Angeles).  This time, I had batteries in my camera,  Yea!!!

Clap.Your.Hands.Say.Yeah.(L!VE) @Webster.Hall

Clap.Your.Hands.Say.Yeah.2011
Clap.Your.Hands.Say.Yeah.2011
@Webster.Hall.(NYCity)
Wednesday.December.7.2011

Today's show at Webster Hall is SOLD OUT!!!  It's a crazy rainy day today in the city and it feels good.  It's not to hot or cold, just perfect out.
Clap.Your.Hands.Say.Yeah.2011This time around, I did not check in my coat because it's a mission to get it when a show is over.  You really got to be on your game or people are gonna cut.  Plus, to check in just ONE coat here is $6.00.  That is just bananas.  I rather carry the dam thing.

The first band went on and they felt like a 90's band with all that feed back.  I don't know who did the better singing, the guy or the girl, but some people did not mind it.  They where bopping to the music and a girl not to far away was singing along to every song (friend?).

The second band (WATERS from San Francisco) was better.   They too sounded like a band from the 90's. So does that mean that 90's rock sound is coming back?  Since the sound of 90's early House and Techno is making a come back on todays dance music.
Clap.Your.Hands.Say.Yeah.2011Clap.Your.Hands.Say.Yeah where GREAT.  It helped to have visuals.  If they didn't, they would of not done so well.  When I saw them at Culture.Collide in October, they where just okay.   They just stood there and the crowd did the same.  They didn't play there hit song, "The Skin of My Yellow Country Teeth" that day, but they did tonight.  That song got everyone shaking and moving, to the point where you can feel the floor move.  It's a little scary if you think of it because it feels like it's going to collapse.
Clap.Your.Hands.Say.Yeah.2011Clap.Your.Hands.Say.Yeah came out with a FANTASTIC album this year called "Hysterical" (need to get).  That second album (Some Loud Thunder) just came and went.  I thought that was the end of them because I don't think they toured for that album.  So great that they went back to the studio and didn't break up.  If they had, the song "Hysterical"  wouldn't be on my Top.50.Songs.of.2011.

Digitalism.2011
Digitalism.2011
@Webster.Hall.(NYCity)
Friday.December.2.2011

This is FCKN Crazy!!!  Top 40 music while we wait for the main floor to open?!  It feels like I am at a gay club (nothing bad).  I find it a bit awkward for a place like this.   I guess it helps to balance the music here and get all types of people to come to "Girls and Boys".
Digitalism.2011It's already 12am and the main floor is OPEN!!!  I see so many X's on kids  hands.   They can get someone like me and sneak a drink around a dark corner or go to the bathroom.  The more I look at the crowd, the younger they keep looking.  I have not spotted a single techno color outfit or any kind of glow stuff on these kids.  Its a relief not to see it.  it's VERY gray and black here.

I walked around.  I started to get annoyed with that Techno Electro sound by Nadastrom.  I need vocals in my music.  Thanks GOD for that Top 40 room, now it makes since.  I went downstairs to see if  they opened the Studio (under the Webster Hall) and they did.  It was turned it into another Top 40 room.  Why!?!?  I thought they might get some local up coming live bands down here because thats what the Studio is known for.  Back upstairs I go to catch Data Romance.

Data Romance was the opening band and they sure cleared the main dance floor after Nadastrom.  At least they helped me get to the front.
Digitalism.2011It's almost 2am and Digitalism hit the stage and what a FCVKn AWESOME SHOW!!! They added another member (I think just for the tour) that played real drums.  I was disappointed when they did not play, "Fire in Cairo".  Why wasn't it on the playlist?  That single put them on the map.  After they played "Pogo", they  left the stage and they never returned.  Wow, no encore.  We waited just in case they came back out, but they never did.  I was happy that they played, "Circles" (made my Top 50 of 2011 list) and "2 Hearts".  Nice.      They also had some KICK A$$ visuals and lights.  It was very colorful and they got rid of there signature green.  It OLNY came out when they played, "Pogo".

After the show, I went to see the shirts because Digitalism always have really cool T-shirts.  Sure enough,  they did and bought one.  I looked down on the table and they had FREE Digitalism matchbooks.  Score!

Holy.Ghost! and Jessica.6.(L!V3) in Brooklyn

Holy.Ghost!.2011
Holy.Ghost!.2011
@Music.Hall.of.Williamsburg
(Brooklyn, NY)
Saturday.November.26.2011

$H!T.  The L train is shut down for the weekend, so I had to jump on a different train to get to Williamsburg.  At first it looked a bit confusing at the directions they had posted on the wall, but it lined up pretty well. Now, how to get back home.  I hope it's the same way (which it was).
Midnight.Magic.2011I arrived to the venue and  the doorman had a hard time scanning my paper ticket.  When it scanned, he told me "if it was scanned before?".  This is the reason why I prefer my tickets at  will call.  He let me, thank God.   I walked in and the place was empty.  Only a few of us here.  There was a DJ (Eli Escobar) playing really cool music (about time).  I walked around and I like this place.  It's half the size of Webster Hall with a really good sound system.

Midnight.Magic was the first band and they got the party started.  The lead female singer is funny.  She knows how to pump up a empty room and turn it into a party.  She got some people moving.
Jessica.6.2011Jessica.6 was up next and the venue started to get busy.  It was another SOLD OUT concert for Holy.Ghost! and this is the last show for the year.  It was a  night of NYCity bands  and Jessica 6 did a great job.  Nomi came out looking HOT (as always)!  Not to many costume changes, but a strip down.  She slowly took off her top and revealed a almost naked chest.  The bra had nipples that made you think for a second.
Holy.Ghost!.2011My first time seeing Holy.Ghost! and they did not disappoint.  I always missing this band when they come to Los Angeles and what a show.  They had this really cool stage set up that reminded me of the old days (from what I saw in pictures).  They had all this electronic equipment that reminded me of early Kraftwerk concerts.

I looked into the crowd and I did not see to many young kids in the crowd.   It was an 18 and over concert.  It was more of an older crowd and no drunks out of control around me.  I was up on a platform and you can see huge pockets of smoke in crowd.  This place was smoking it up.  You even smiled it in the bathroom.

Holy.Ghost! set was quick.   Jessica.6, Midnight.Magic and DJ Eli Escobar all kicked a$$ tonight.  Even the guy up in front singing every song from Jessica.6 had a blast.  Music Hall of Williamsburg is a really cool venue, but $7.00 for beer, that's crazy!!!

\m/  \m/  \m/  \m/ - AWESOME!

Balam.Acab.2011
@le.poisson.rouge.(NYCity)
Thursday.November.18.2011

le.poisson.rouge is a REALLY COOL place.  I always wanted to come here and now I have the opportunity.

Once I stepped in, they where playing Depeche.Mode's Black Celebration album in it's entirety (this place just won my heart even more) and I saw some kids singing along and dancing.  Groovy.

le.poisson.rouge is by NYU on the famous Bleeker St.  It made me fill I was at some hip and edgy joint in Brooklyn.  There are still cool places in the city still, Awesome!
jdn73,balamarab,coldwave,music,concert,lepoissonrouge,trust,truewomanhoodThe first band, True.Womanhood where really good.  They are a synth/rock band form DC.  At first I was not to crazy about them, but after the second song, they had me tapping my feet to some cool dance beats.
jdn73,balamarab,coldwave,music,concert,lepoissonrouge,trust,truewomanhoodThe second band, Trust was really GOOD!  They had this really cool sound that threw me back to early industrial music when it was minimal and fresh.  Only two members in the band, a girl (synth) and a guy (vocals and programming).  Towards the end of there set, the girl decided to show some personality.  She had a cute little dance, but she stopped it very quickly.  Once I came home I looked them up and there was not much information about them.  All I know, they are from Canada.

So far, LOVE what I am hearing tonight and lets see what Balam.Acab has in store because it's already 1:00am.
jdn73,balamarab,coldwave,music,concert,lepoissonrouge,trust,truewomanhoodBalam.Acab went on, but they had just a little problem with the second song.  They are two members in the band and it's the same lineup as Trust, but a little different.  The girl is the singer and the guy programs and also sings, but...BOY, are they young!  They look 15 years old.

Balam.Arab went on around 1:30am and after a couple of songs I was pretty much done.  They bored me.  I wanted to get wowed after two good bands, but I wasn't.  This is a Cold.Wave.  I am glad I came or I would never would of heard of True.Womanhood and Trust.

I really don't get that style where guys show off there man panties.  I don't find it appealing, but there is an audience that like it.  There is a roadie up on stage showing us his white man panties.  Not a nice color to start off because you can see his sweat. Nice, I just ate and thats something I didn't need to see at this moment.
jdn73,indie,concert,kidsatthebar,websterhall,thesounds,nataliakillsKids at the Bar where the house DJ's and they really pumped up the crowd.  They played a mix of Electro-Techno pop music that you hear on the radio.  Kids at the Bar are two DJs on stage.  One mixes and pumps the crowd, while the other one just turns knobs around and just stands there looking into the audience.  Very interesting pair.
jdn73,indie,concert,kidsatthebar,websterhall,thesounds,nataliakillsNatalia Kills was the opening act.  I Never heard of them and let's keep it that way.  It was cute to watch one of the members mother's in the crowd yelling there names and dancing to the songs.  The band had a cool style to them, but the music (for me) was very cheesy Top 40 pop music, that sounds like Metro Station.

After Natalie Kills, they brought back Kids at the Bar.
jdn73,indie,concert,kidsatthebar,websterhall,thesounds,nataliakillsThe Sounds started off with "It's So Easy" and from there, the dance party has started.  What a show and Maja Ivarsson (Lead Singer) looks, HOT!   I still don't know how she does it, performing in high heels for about 2 hours. Jumping around and kicking.  Her feet and foot have to be hurting after every show. She even staged dived towards the end, but they pulled her out so fast.

The Sounds played ALL there hits, "Tony the Beat", "Rock 'n' Roll" (ahhhhhhh), "Dorchester Hotel", "Living in America" and the new songs from, "Something to Die for" album and they sounded...AWESOME!!!
jdn73,indie,concert,kidsatthebar,websterhall,thesounds,nataliakillsThe crowd was a bit wild.  There was this couple that stormed there way to the front and they where a trip.  The girl kept flashing her VIP sticker (like in that movie, Wayne's World) at people, but there is no VIP section.  Some girls around me started to make fun of her and talking $H!T and she left.  She came back, but this time, she climed on the speaker.  The girls that she pist off wanted to throw $H!T at her, but no one did anything. They just gave her dirty looks.  Sure enough, the girl was kicked off the speaker after 2 songs by security.  I was surprised she did not flash her VIP sticker that was taped on her chest to him.

I saw the set list and Tiga goes on at midnight and Soulwax at 1 am.  I am looking around the crowd and it's a mix of young and middle age.  I see a girl (dressed in a tiger outfit) that decided to wear her Halloween costume tonight. Groovy.   Not to far from her, I see a guy dancing with his cane.  It reminded me of that scene in Mary Poppins, when they are in the park dancing and singing with the animals.  Pretty funny.
jdn73,newyorkcity,websterhall,dance,concert,tiga,soulwax,electro,technoI don't know who was the first DJ (Zombie Nation), but it looked like he was having some problems.  He kept signalling the tech people and he flipped them off and waved goodbye.  D!VA.  The more I look into the crowd, I don't see one single person dressed in TechnoColor (that's what I call the kids at these Rave events in L.A.).  Not even one loud color of clothing.  Almost everyone is in a dark shade of color.  Thank you.
jdn73,newyorkcity,websterhall,dance,concert,tiga,soulwax,electro,technoTiga went on and I was not to crazy about his set.  I think I am gonna scratch him off like Felix da Housecat.  It's all that crazy noise (Electro-Techno).  Everyone went crazy went he played, "Mind Deminsion" (a single of his from last year), but they did not go crazy when he played, "Shoes".  It was not the original version of the song, it was a remix of it which I was not a fan of. Towards the end, he played, Friendly Fires "Blue Cassette" (a song with actual vocals) and it was a remix, which I think he did. It was the only good song that I  actually moved to.  There might be still a chance.
jdn73,newyorkcity,websterhall,dance,concert,tiga,soulwax,electro,technoSoulwax was up next and what a performance.  They topped there show from the last time I saw them in L.A.  I think that was 4 or 3 years ago at Avaland.  They got rid of there white suits and went with lite blue that looked a bit gray.  Soulwax sounded great  and if they play there cards right, they could be the void for LCD Soundsystem.  They played a couple of new songs that sounded VERY promising.
jdn73,newyorkcity,websterhall,dance,concert,tiga,soulwax,electro,technoEverything was going good until that drunk guy came out of nowhere.  He pushed some people so he could be up front.  People made some faces and kindly asked him to leave, but he did not budge.  He just payed no attention and just danced and bumped in to people.  Now, if this happened in L.A., this guy would of been pushed out or punched.  Not here,  they just yelled at him to move.  Towards the end,  they danced with him.  He left for awhile and then he came back and the people slowly pushed him away.  There where some other crazy drunks around, but they kept it together.

Portishead.2011

Already being asked for my ticket and I have not arrived to the venue yet.  That's pretty crazy.  I heard both shows SOLD OUT quick.  I thought it was gonna sale very slowly because the cost to see them is $50.oo, but with the service charge from Ticketmaster, it comes up to $70.oo each.  That's not including the $20.00 parking in there structure.  Of course I know the neighborhood and I parked 4 blocks away from The Shrine (score).

I met up with my friend Steven and we arrived at a perfect time.  It was not packed yet, but to get a good space up front was getting crowded already.  We headed to the shirt stand and....WOW!   That line was HUGE.  They sold coffee cups and titanium water bottles.  I was surprised they did not sell any tote bags (I wanted one if they did).  I waited after the show to get a shirt and the line was STILL HUGE!
jdn73,portishead,triphop,shrineexpo,losangeles,concertThey had a opening band and they where good.  They reminded me of Esteban & the Witch, but better.  The only problem, each songs they played where to long.  They need to cut them short.

It started to get busy and of course you had those people that want to be up front.  Some lady next to me freaked out on one tall guy that gently pushed his way.  He stood in front of her for a second and then he moved.  The crowd was older and mellow and well behaved.  no craziness.
jdn73,portishead,triphop,shrineexpo,losangeles,concertThe last time I was here at The Shrine Expo was when The.Chemical.Brothers preformed here in the mid 90's.  They held ALOT of underground parties here and I attended half of them.  It was between La Casa and the Shrine for those famous underground parties, because they where cracking down the warehouses.  Fun times.
jdn73,portishead,triphop,shrineexpo,losangeles,concertPortishead went on and they K!LLED !T.  The visuals where simple, but AMAZING.   Beth Gibbons (Lead Singer) voice was on point.  She sounded GREAT and so much like the album.  Not alot of artist can pull that off, but Beth does.  She is so shy because everytime she stopped singing, she would face the direction of Geoff Barrow (the Genius).  I was surprised that she was standing...UP!  The only time she sat down to sing a song was, "Wondering Star".  Okay...they did an AWESOME remake of the song.  They stripped it down (way...DOWN) and it was incredible that I want it.
jdn73,portishead,triphop,shrineexpo,losangeles,concertThey played the new one, "Chase the Tear" (which is almost a year and a half old) in the middle of the show.  You would think that was the song to end the night.  They sold the single at the booth for $20.oo (Okay...REALLY!  Thats CRAZY!).  That's to high for a 12'inch record.  They played alot from the first album,  a few from the second and some from the third.  I wish I could go to the 2nd night, but NYC is calling.
