Interpol

Tuesday
October.19.2010

It's a gloomy and rainy day in Los Angeles and what perfect weather to see Interpol. It was an okay drive to Pomona. It should only take 40 minutes, but it tool almost an hour and a half to get here. I left the house around 6:30 and got to Pomona at 5 minutes to 8. I rushed to the venue and I noticed that the Sold Out sign was up. Once I walked in after my crazy pocket search (they should invest in metal detectors at this point), it was tough to get to the floor. I knew there was no chance in hell I was gonna get down there, but I was trying. I stood close to the edge, but you had those crazy people that I said "FCVK IT!". There where these crazy guys next to me that jumped down to the floor, but they got caught. If you are gonna do that, make sure you wear something to blend in with the crowd. He had this really loud blue shirt and to top it off, he just walked towards the crowd. Dorks!
interpol,jdn73,foxtheaterinterpol,jdn73,foxtheater
The first band "White Rabbits" where really good. Never heard of them and I am gonna look into them when I get home. This is my second time here at The Fox theater and it's packed compare to the last time.

Interpol went on and they played the first song from the new album, "Success" (Of course. Thats there signature). Through the middle of the show they played "Barricade" and "Lights". I wonder why they did that. I noticed that they played alot from the second album (Antics) and there new one (Interpol). Very little (very) from "Our Love To Admire" and "Turn On the Bright Lights". This show felt like they where not giving us a good performance. It was an okay show. They closed it with "PDA" and the girl next to me was bouncing up and down with her loud platform shoes (who knows what she had on, but those FCVKRs where loud). Her chi chi's where bouncing all over the place. Me and this other girl where just looking at this amazon go wild. Awesum.
interpol,jdn73,foxtheater
I was hoping that they would play "The New" (that's my song) but, no. The crazy thing, you really did not miss Carlos D. Did someone just proposed during the show?!?! How crazy is that. What's next? A wedding after or before a Interpol show? Rock on.

FOALs (LiVE!).@el.Rey (los Angeles, CA)

Monday
October.18.2010

I went straight the the shirt stand and they all SCVK a$$. The girl must of thought I was crazy because I was there for awhile just looking. I really want a Foals shirt, so I ended up buying the black one that had some crazy flower design on it.

The El.Rey Theater was packed and that's a good sign because last time I saw them (2 years ago) it was easy for me to get up front. This time, it was a challenge. Thank God I followed this couple and I got to the floor. I pretended that I was with them and I followed them until they stopped in the middle. Perfect. I over heard that Esben and the Witch just finished and Foals where next. DAM! I was hoping to catch Esben. They where another band to watch out for. Oh well.
foals,jdn73foals,jdn73
While I was waiting for Foals, these kids started talking to me about bands and if I had seen Foals before. I told them that I have and they are gonna be in for a great show. I got them excited. I asked them where they were from. One was from San Jose and the other from Temecula. I was like, "Wow. You guys just drove from there to here?". They said, "No. We go to school here in L.A.". I was about to say. They both go to USC to study Business Communications. Cool. I suggested that they need to go see "Two Door Cinema Club" at the Music Box (Fonda). "That's another show you need to see. I recommend. I saw them at the Troubadour and I was impress". "I guess we need to go after all", they said.
foals,jdn73
Foals once again kicked some major a$$! Yannis Philippakis (Lead Singer) was getting crazy. He was climbing the side of the stage, throwing himself into the crowd and climbing down from the back of the balcony. He was on a mission. I do not know if he was frustrated with the crew (workers at the theater) because a bunch of people started to get on stage. It was out of control fun. The new music sounded amazing and once they played the old stuff, that's when people got crazy. My new friends pushed to the front, while I stayed behind. No way am I going in there.
foals,jdn73
I have no idea why, but tonight I was having really bad gas. I was holding it all night, but my stomach was acting up because of the build up. So I had to and boy was it was smelly. I was trying not to laugh because you can hear the people around me complaining and covering up there noses. I was doing the same so they won't think it was me. The smell was that bad. Back to Foals. If you have not heard of them, you need to. Once you have, you need to see them live. it's a MUST! So, pick up the new album, "Total Life Forever" because you are missing out on a great performance from a really great band. Here is a video of the show where Yannis climbs the rafters.

Die Antwoord

The Music Box

No $H*T! Aprill, I am next to Santino Rice. At first I was, "who the FCVK is this guy wearing the Amish outfit?". Sure enough, it's Santino. I think he was there by himself. Then this crazy lady just walked up to him and told him that Dave Grohl is in the crowd. Groovy. I am looking into the crowd and from what I see, it's older. I have not seen so many facelifts in one place. I turn around and I see this older lady with a crazy stiff face, no emotion of any kind. Man, someone next to me has really bad B.O. It time to breathe through my mouth.
dieantwoord,jdn73
Some people have spotted Santino and started taking pictures of him. The lady is still telling people around her that Dave Grohl is here. Can someone just throw her out! This is her fourth time saying this and it's getting really annoying. WOW! I just saw this girl with a plastic white rat on her head. AWESUM!
dieantwoord,jdn73
Die Antwoord came out and they where FCVKn AMAZING! Loved the graphics they had. It reminded me of Keith Haring when he did that huge dress for Grace Jones for that performance at the Paradise Garage show in New York City (1985). But Grace Jones was better of course. Die Antwoord had different costume changes through the nite. They just kept stripping down to there underwear, well Ninja (lead vocals) did. He kept bouncing his junk to us and people where going crazy. I was waiting for that $H*T to pop out. The crowd was not that bad, but I did get this crazy guy. He pushed this girl who was next to me and I. So, I did the same and I gave him a kick in the shins. He moved quick. A$$hole. I could not believe how short and skinny Yo-Landi Vi$$er (other lead vocals) was. She has some big bobbies too. They look fake because they looked so firm and perfect. I Can not believe that she turned down the role to play lead on the American version of "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo!". David Fincher (Director of the American version) wanted her to play the lead, but Vi$$er turned it down to focus on her music. WOW.
dieantwoord,jdn73
I turned to see Santino because on the corner of my eye I would see him go crazy. He was singing his heart out with them. Priceless. I took pictures of him, but it was to dark. Oh well. Towards the end of the show, Ant.Woord broke out wearing Pokemon outfits. Cute. Can not wait to see them again. But is it true that this is just a front?! Are we getting played?!?!?!? If we are. It was worth my $$$$. They ROCKED!

October.15.2010

FCVK! My spot has been taken over by a high school football game. DAM iT! That means I need to go down my other spot just in case. $H*T! They changed ALL the meter parking signs. California is sure trying to make there money somewhere. That means I gave to pay $21.00 for parking at the Bowl. I could of just walked it. I think it's a 45 minute walk. Next time I know.

It's hipster central and It's 60 degrees here in L.A. and the scarfs are out and beanies. It's only 60. You gotta love L.A. when the weather goes under the 70's. I parked my car and there was a couple next to me. The guy (full of tattoo's and piercings) was taking the longest time perfecting his scarf while his girlfriend is downing her beer. I had to stay in my car to watch this. It took him about 5 minutes to get the scarf the way he wanted. Pretty groovy. It's great to watch the girl chug a beer while the guy perfects a scarf.
hotchip,jdn73hotchip,jdn73
I headed to the Bowl and it was a bit bananas to get in. But once inside, I went straight to the shirts. I bought this really cool LCD shirt. It was different from all the others. It was yellow with black and red fonts scrabbled. Once I grabbed my shirt, I headed to my seat. Hot Chip just went on.
It's crazy to see Hot Chip at big place once again and they where great. They never disappoint not matter how big or small the venue is. I was looking around and I was surprised to see some people dancing. This is a GREAT sign.
lcdsoundsystem,jdn73lcdsoundsystem,jdn73
Hot Chip where going through there songs as if it was the last performance of there life. I think they only played for about 30 minutes. People next to me had a few cocktails already. After there set, I went and walked around to people watch. Sure enough I bump into a old high school friend. How crazy is that. What's up Richard! I went back to my seat and this couple who was not there before just looked at me as if i just intruded there space. I smiled at them and I said to them, "I guess this is my seat". The girl said, "what?". "I guess this is my seat!" . She, "oh". She was on my seat, but I did not say anything. I asked them, "this is your first time seeing them?". They said, "yes". I told them they are in for a show. They asked how many times have I seen them and I told them, "this is my 5th time and I have not been disappointed". The guy saw my shirt and he said, "I could never rock a yellow shirt". I said, "It all depends on how you wear it". The conversation came to an end after that.
lcdsoundsystem,jdn73
LCD Soundsystem went on and they KILLED IT! What an amazing show. They played songs I wanted to hear ("Yeah", "I Can Change" and "Tribulations"). When they played "Tribulations" the disco ball came out. Ahhhhhh. They sounded fresh and I have no idea why James Murphy (mastermind & vocals) wants to end this. They are at there peak. It's CRAZY!. The best part of the whole show was that people actually where dancing. It looked like everyone was having fun. People where throwing there glow wristbands around. I could see the pit and it looked ALIVE! I think this has been there BEST show to date. Why end the fun!?!??!?

SiMiAN.MOBiLE.DiSCO - Is Fixed-

It's out and it's good, but it's not as good as "FabricLive.41". This album is perfect to play while getting ready to go out or hanging out in your car drinking before you go into the club. They have some good tunes like, "Ballet Statique", "Malphas", "U Can Dance (SMD Mix)"[AWESUM TRACK you need to download], "Midnight Madness", this really crazy new track from them called "Nerve Salad" (AWESUM!) and this cool track by Pantha du Prince called "Behind the Stars". If you are a fan of Simian Mobile Disco (as myself) or new to them, you gotta get this. This mix album does not disappoint at all. From start to end, it's the perfect getting ready to party record.

October.14.2010

"She is so self involved. Look at her, she wraps herself with the mic wires. Now I know why you like her", said this guy to his girlfriend after the show. I was racing up to hear more, but they moved to fast.
zolajesus,jdn73
I am at The Echo once again to catch Zola Jesus once again. You would think with all the press that Nika Rosa (lead singer) has been having this place would be pack and sold out, but it was not. She has opened up for Fever Ray, The xx and the English like her. What's wrong with this picture.? People not into it?
zolajesus,jdn73
Zola Jesus went on schedule and I noticed that the stage was a bit empty from last time. Are they afraid that she might go crazy with equipment again? Well she did go crazy with the microphone wire. I thought she was gonna trip because she was using it as a prop. She wrapped it around her arms, legs and she put it on top of her head. The more I was looking at her, she is a performance artist. Towards the last song, Nika Rosa got off the stage and looked as if she wanted to climb the walls of the venue by the ladies room. Since she could not, she just sang by the bathroom pacing back and forth and went back on stage to finish the song and that was the last song she played. AWESUM!

Maximum Balloon -Maximum Balloon-

maximum balloon Pictures, Images and Photos

I was hoping to love this album by David Sitek (Guitarist of TV on the Radio, Record Producer [Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Liars, Foals and so on]) side project, Maximum Balloon, but not really. I played it twice and I was finding myself deleting more songs that I thought they where okay the first time around. David Byrne (Talking Heads), Holly Miranda and Little Dragon where being deleted. The standout track (which I think she should do a solo album for fun) is Karen O's "Communion". Thats a MUST DOWNLOAD! A MUST!!!!! I like the album cover the most. It reminds me of that French film "The Red Ballon".

David Sitek took a risk in making a dance album and I like artists that step out from there comfort zone. So kudos.

White.Lies
Culture Collide
Saturday
October.9.2010

I am here early and there is a band up there and all the members are wearing sunglasses. It must be really BRIGHT up there since the lights on stage are dim. Groovy. I went to the shirt stand and once again, no White Lies T-shirt. DAM! I was hoping they would have some or at least a sticker. Oh well. I guess they do not need money. I left the shirt table and I went to see if they let you go upstairs, they blocked it off. They should let us roam around. JERKS!
whitelies,jdn73
I decided to sit down because none of these bands are catching my interest, so far. I guess I was taking alot of the sofa space that these girls decided to join me. They where funny. They where both from Orange County (I asked because they where so direct and I knew they where not from here). They came to the show just to have fun. They have not heard of any of the bands. A friend told them to go see White Lies and I told them; "Good friend and good choice". They left to get more drinks and they where kind enough to ask if I wanted one, but I said "no". Rock on O.C. girls. The last band announced they last song, so I got up and headed to the front. While I was walking to the main stage, I noticed that its not as busy as it was yesturday. Why is that? Who knows, but I think White Lies are good as Klaxons. Which, I can not wait to hear new stuff from "White Lies".
whitelies,jdn73
It was easy to get to the front and I noticed alot of ladies up here. I am watching the roadies set up the stage and I see that they have an extra synth and a microphone from last time I saw them. They added a new member and are they going Editors? They taped the playlist on the floor and I see that they are gonna open up with two new songs, COOL. Next to the playlist I noticed other papers on the floor and it looks like lyrics. We might be getting a sneak peak of the new songs live today. Sweet.
whitelies,jdn73,harrymcveigh
AWESOME performance once again! The new tracks sounded very promising. They did not change much (which is great because I thought they where gonna go Editors on us), they are still this moody dark rock band with a new member on guitar and synth. I loved when they played there old stuff because you heard people singing along to every note with Harry McVeigh (lead vocals and guitar). Then we had this crazy guy shouting some songs to play, like, E.S.T. (they did not play). They payed no attention, but the crowd went wild when they played "Unfinished Business". YES! Even though the crowd was mellow (no crazy drunks or some a$$hole pushing there way to the front) they where into it, even when they played the new stuff. They closed the night with "Farewell to the Fairground". What a perfect song to end this night. AWESOME SHOW!

KLAXONs
Culture Collide
Friday
October.8.2010

This is the first time Filter Magazine does this event called "Culture Collide" and so far, it's a good turn out. They have bands playing at The Echo, Spaceland, Taix and The Standard Hotel Downtown. It's a small music festival with a very big international band line-up. I got my wristband yesterday in the afternoon just to bet the rush. It's a good deal, only 20 bucks to see a bunch of bands in four days, but I am only here for the headliners; Klaxons, White Lies and Tokyo Police Club. Tonight is Klaxons and I can not wait to hear the new stuff. It's been what, 2 or 3 years since there last album and to see them back at the EchoPlex?!?! AWESUME! Crystal Castles opened up (that's when they where.....who is this band) for them.
suun,jdn73klaxons,jdn73
I arrived early because the wristband does not guarantee you entrance if the venue is full. It's pretty first come first serve. So I am here early and no line to get in (thank God). When I stepped in to the EchoPlex there was a band called Suuns already playing that reminded me of HomeVideo. Not bad. After there last song, I went to the T-shirt stand and I bought a Klaxons shirt. After I got my shirt, I noticed that you can go to The Echo. Awesum! We are able to walk around both venues, cool. When I went up there, the next band went on and I left back downstairs. AWFUL. Even the band that was playing downstairs was not for me, but they where at least better. When they where over I wanted to go back up stairs to catch The White Lies DJ set, but they closed it off!?!? FCVKRs! I am stuck here until midnight, when Klaxons go on. DAM!
klaxons,jdn73Klaxons hit the stage around 12:15am. Strike 1. When they came out, they did not wear there 2010 New Romantics outfits, FCVKRs! That's strike 2. But they did a killer show. The new stuff sounded GREAT live and the old stuff sounded fresh. I was surprised that the crowd was a bit tame. That was cool for me, but I was very surprised about that. I thought someone would get crazy and start a pit or something, but nothing. Not even a glow stick was present. Nice. The last song they played was "It's Not Over Yet" and they almost hit a home run with this show but they got a strike 3. No encore and people booed. It was sure over.

KLAXONS -Surfing The Void-

klaxons-surfing the void Pictures, Images and Photos

This album by KLAXONS "Surfing The Void" took me a couple of listens to get use to. When I heard the first track "Echoes", I was......okay. Then "The Same Space" (second track), I was......okay. When I was done with the album I was, "I need to listen to it again, this time with my headsets". That's when it all changed. Pretty good album. Ross Robinson (Producer who worked with Korn, Limp Bizkit, At the Drive-In and so on) did a good job with this album. It has this really cool Psychedelic-Hard Rock feel that it's not that hard but it has a punch to the songs. I recommend if you are a true Klaxons fan.

The Drums
The Glass House (Pomona, CA)
September.28.2010

FCVK! I missed Surfer Blood. DAM! When I was heading towards the venue, I saw people coming out and I thought it was over. It was not, Surfer Blood just got off stage. I got my ticket at will call and I see they have shirts, Awesum! They ran out of the blue (The Drums) shirt so I got the black. Got my shirt and headed to the main floor. Not so many people. You might say there is 50 people in here not including the one's outside.

I just read on New Musical Express that Guitarist Adam Kessler left the band two nights before there first gig in America. Wow! He called his bandmates around 1am saying that he could not continue. "I want a simpler life", he said. So, what a cool band does? Is hire someone to take his place, but he is not replacing or gonna be part of the band. That was quick.
thedrums,jdn73
I do not know if The Drums picked the intermission music, but it's non-stop Kraftwerk. I like. I am looking into the crowd and they are young and pretty, also the girls. I see a couple of popadors. I know The Drums look something out from the 50's, but come on. I just spotted a letterman's jacket. Let the sock-hop begin.

The Drums came out one by one every 20 seconds. Only four of them appeared on stage so they did done away with the back up singers (sucks) and the lead guitarist (Jacob Graham) stopped playing the tambourin (double sucks), but he still had that crazy energy. I loved when he played the tambourin. He would be jumping and twirling around the stage like a crazy banshee. But he is still great to watch and that crazy little Vouge move he did when they closed it with "Down By The Water" was priceless. It was also great to see people dance here and shout out songs for them to play.
thedrums,jdn73
Now lets talk about Johnathan Pierce (lead singer). He is so Morrissey-ish. The way Morrissey use to be in The Smiths, swaying around the stage. He was entertaining. The other two where doing there thing and the temporary guitarist was doing great. How quick he learned the songs. I wonder if he is a friend of the band? But you know what, I prefer the last time I saw them at Spaceland last year or was it this year? Who knows. Did Jonathan just told us that we where "lovely"? He is so English now. Cheers!
